How can you be charged for both murder and manslaughter? someone explain.

They charge her with both to avoid double jeopardy. The courts can't charge her for murder, and if it fails, then manslaughter. So they charge with both in hopes of getting the murder charge to stick. But if the murder charge falls through, she gets hit with manslaughter 2. Either way, she's totally screwed... and rightfully so. People that are capable of such atrocities should be locked up.

Kim Crawford stands accused of murdering Jamar Johnson after telling police she struck him on the chest and back "harder than I've ever hit him" when told he had broken the family TV set while playing a Wii game.

The incident took place on June 13, yet it took five days of agonizing pain - during which Crawford refused to take her son to the hospital out of fear for what she had done - before the boy succumbed to massive internal injuries and passed away.

New York Police say that the accused has prior arrests for assault and drug use, while officers had been called to the family home nine times since 2006 to attend reports of "domestic incidents" between Crawford and the boy's father.

Happy nightmaring indeed, this is exactly why I don't watch the news and try to lock myself out of any news from any media. Crap like these stories, and this: http://bit.ly/lsMOE8 make me wish there was a way that people had to register and pass some form of test to have children, sort of like how you need a pass to have a child in china. don't flame me on this, I'm not commenting on whether China's one-child system or its consequences are yay or naye, merely commenting on how the registration to have a child clearly in some manner is possible to do, and should be done o'er here, because quite frankly some people do not have the right to have children

You also have to take into account that most 24/7 news channels are sensationalist BS looking for ratings and advertisement numbers then reporting the actual news that people want to hear. For an example I point out the daily show skit on the news media's reaction to Nancy Pelosi not talking about Mr. Weiner and trying to focus on Jobs, the Economy, and Healthcare.
