Think back to your favorite games. What was one moment that made you say "Yes! i love this game! Definitely a favorite" If you can't remember when a game was considered a favorite, post one that reminded you. For me, I think it was the ending of Kingdom Hearts that solidified it as my favorite game. It seemed to really bring the game together, and was incredibly satisfying. And in R&C 2, there was a point where i was fighting a tank, flipping side to side to avoid its blasts while shooting rockets the entire time. Things like that are why i love that game.

The entirety of Persona 4. I love murder mysteries and RPGs so putting them together without it being a cheesy CSI or Law and Order rip off was so amazing for me.

Gotta go with the obvious answer: Sephiroth driving his sword through Aeris followed by the saddest music in gaming history. That scene genuinely *changed* me. Few other games can make that claim.

That is the level that tricked me into buying two more COD games, no other game has made me do that

The final fight in Metal Gear Solid 4. No other game has come close to that moment, fighting liquid on top of the ship and seeing both snake and liquid show their age more and more in each round. The fighting mechanics weren't all that great but it didn't matter. The microwave hallway just before was another moment.

I think I knew I was going to label Bioshock as a favourite game when I happened by a radio and it was playing:
"You're the top"
By the legendary Cole Porter. That was the moment where it hit my nerve and I was permenantly a fan.

Also in Halo: Combat Evolved I think the second I stepped out of that Escape Pod and saw the world open up before my eyes I was in awe. In Halo 2 it was the moment when I realised I was playing as the Arbiter and in Halo 3 it was the second it started up.

Finally Mass Effect cemented my fandom in a few key points, firstly the Shepard/Ashley love scene (my horny teenage boy part of my mind was very pleased with that, and later on my mature appreciation for romance stories part of me was equally impressed) and the moment of relief when I was able to convince Wrex to stay on my side and of course that EPIC battle with Sovereign.
But of course all of this was wrapped together by one defining scene. The moment where I saw the Citadel for the first time... AWE INSPIRING.

Finally, not in game, the moment where I had to stop playing Portal to run some errands and I was stuck on a tricky puzzle only to suddenly figure it out and literally scream 'Eureka!' right there in a coffee shop. That was the moment that really meant something.

Finally, Gears of War... my first chainsaw kill. That one was magical.

The intro cinematic to shadow of the colossus. I didn't even have to play the game to love it.

The opening moments of Mario 64. Jumping and moving in 3D. To me, someone who had never seen anything in 3D before then, it was as though a whole world had suddenly taken shape.

Running for that plane at the end of Facility in GoldenEye 64, with an infinite number of soldiers rushing behind.

Watching the sprawl of Hyrule Field open up before me in Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Breaking through and conquering the entirety of the Fissure of Woe in Guild Wars with my friends.

Stepping out of Vault 101 and into a true sense of total freedom in Fallout 3.

I've been gaming for more than 16 years now. I could go on in this thread for hours... But those are the ones that come up first and foremost.

Seeing a body of a tank crewman in Company of Heroes go flying up into the air, hit a telegraph pole and somersault half a dozen times. My dad and I both sat back and said "whoa".

Jedi Academy - when using force choke to make storm troopers fall over the edge of a cliff or something similar.

"Say good night manuel" <-- that was awesome.

in Deus Ex:

stepping out of the Majestic 12 prison facility only to find yourself in the UNATCO HQ, didn't see that twist coming... I loved it

and the ending movie to metal gear solid 3... brought a tear to my eye

KOTOR. You know which moment I'm talking about. Everything else already had it contending for my favorite game ever, but the defining moment of the game just launched the game above everything else.

And Crew Expendable will probably trick me into buying two more.

Oh so many moments. Let's just say Mass Effect. As soon as I started playing it. I knew it was a game I would play to death and beyond and when I heard that two more games were going to be made I knew I was a Bioware fanboy. Only a few other games have done that to me. (Disgaea, Call of Duty 4, Kingdom Hearts, Fallout 3, a couple others)

FFIX- Garnet 'singing' followed immediately by The Festival of the Hunt

FFVII-the over-world map for the first time. The size and the music just hit me.

Psychonauts- The "OMG let's make-out" scene

Sonic A2B- The City Escape level, once again the music combined with the scene and created a memory.
