There are great villians. We know this. But sometimes they do some stupid shit that just makes you stop thinking of them as a serious villian. Sure, they're a threat, but they'll be beaten. The question is, has this happened to you, which villian(s), and when did it happen? This applies to all forms of media, my first two examples of three are from games, that's all.
1: Dr. Wily.
After beating him 10 times consecutively in the classic series alone, I doubt in the classic series ANYONE takes Wily seriously anymore. But when did I stop taking him seriously. I'd have to say Megaman 4, for one reason. Even though there was a new villian, I thought 'Wily's behind this.' At this point, it's all become predictable.
2: Bowser.
This is a tough one to pinpoint when. Sure, he was in Mario Kart, but those games aren't the whole "Good vs Evil" thing. He teamed up with Mario in Mario RPG, but he had his own motives. He wasw even reduced to basic comic relief in Paper Mario, but established himself by beating you at the start. I'd have to say I stopped thinking Bowser was the "Big bad guy" in Sunshine. Why? He was in full-villian mode, and was giant... in a freakin' bathtub. You fight Bowser in a freakin' bathtub. POINT OF NO RETURN!-_-
3: Light Yagami.
LET ME EXPLAIN! This moment happened right around the end, when he did the evil laugh in front of everyone. I knew this meant one thing: he'd fall into the basic evil monologue, get stopped, and flouder about in failures and then die. A few minutes later, he's on his back in a pool of his own blood with a guy pointing a gun at his face. Maybe it was the fact that I knew he was going to lose, and that it was the final episode, but let's face it, when you know defeat is imminent, you stop taking the villian seriously.
