Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Pretty much every one of the boss fights. Granted, the boss fights were pretty much indisputably the worst part of that game, but still. Fighting some dude with an infinite supply of explosives with nothing but my silenced pistol and hacking skills was quite possibly one of the most annoying things I've ever had to do in a video game.

Im very close to rage quitting Dead Space. Im at the turret section on level 4. Whatever sadist thought that up needs to be strangled. Ive been trying to do it for an hour, and yet I see online that some people have done it on the first try. ARGH!

I almost gave up on Sephiroth because I really had to pee. But I beat him, and even sat through the ending movie and the credits (I never skip the credits). Then I peed.
So what exactly was keeping you from pressing start to pause during the battle?
I almost gave up on replying to this post because my nose was really runny and I had to find a handkerchief and blow my nose. But I replied, and even spellchecked and clicked "post". Then I blew my nose.

Well starfox adventures isn't exactly great but there is this FUCKING rail shooter section on the fourth chunk of rock were you are flying this FUCKING flying dinosaur and you have to destroy these four FUCKING energy tower things.Anyone who has played that section will know what I am talking about ,suffice to say that I haven't played the game since.

my copy of resident evil 4 has this weird bug thing were every single save file I ever make instantly corrupts so I essentially have to finish the entire game in one sitting or give up on it.

It was the Frontlines-level, where you attempt to infiltrate the neo-Nazi's territory from the communist tunnels, by sneaking past the frontlines between the two factions at war. It's... Awkward, to say the least. You need to sneak past the reds, find the way through a pitch-dark shaft filled with poisoned air and then gun yourself through half of Tverskaya.
I just knew you were going to mention that level. It really was the rotten part of an otherwise juicy apple. An apple that would sometimes partially explode in your face, that is, but delicious when it doesn't.
Um...you guys realize you can sneak through that entire level without being detected, right? Or that you can sneak-kill everyone, too, (though that's much harder)? In fact, it's possible to do that with every enemy human encounter in the entire game.
Of course I know that. It's just that limited sight and weird sneaking glitches didn't help.
I've sneaked my way through the entire game as well, so I know it's possible, but that level was just horribly designed.

The Bunker in Uncharted. Yeah...I don't handle horror well in games at all, and that was such a sudden and unwanted shift.
Yeah that part of the game made me turn off the PS3 and back away slowly.

Any timed or racing mission in any game (usually GTA).

its odd...I really didnt find that scary at all (perhaps if I were in the dark at night)

for me the first Mass effect was kind of "meh" to "that was not bad" (had a ton of technical issues)......few years later and Im a fanatic ($400 for a replica pistol?.....well its not [b/]that[/b] much)

I can't handle horror/survival in games. I couldn't play Silent Hill 4 : The Room even when playing it during the day with someone else in the room. Hell even Tomb Raider gave me the willies

Out of interest how did you do it? Unlike you I did give up at the first boss fight and haven't played since, I occasionally go back but its just too awful/

My playthroughs of Dragon Quest IX, Chrono Trigger and Pokémon Diamond are all on hiatus. DQ and CT because in both I'm up to particularly hard bosses in hard to reach areas and I didn't feel like backtracking, grinding, and climbing back up there again. Pokémon because I'm stuck in the cave on the way to the Elite Four and got sick of going around and around in circles. I haven't 'given up' on any of them, but put them down for now.

I'm playing Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey right now, and I'm at a very annoying warp maze, which is followed immediately by a pitfall maze, and it's pissing me off to no end, so I've put it aside for now.

I have a tendency to forget to save often, and as a result, there have been many games where I lost several hours of progress and was just too disheartened to continue playing. It takes an especially engaging game to get me to continue playing after that happens. It recently happened while I was playing Radiant Historia, of which I'm glad I went back and finished.

Was that the part where the zombies showed up? That was where I stopped playing the first Uncharted.I still haven't gone back to try & finish it. I've hated horror games ever since the first Resident Evil when the damn dog jumped through the window.
Another game that really creeped me out was S.T.A.L.K.E.R.,I was going through a tunnel or something & some monster jumped out & started screaming at me & I said fuck this shit...I haven't played it since. I never made it past Croc in Arkham Asylum either, too tense for me.
Yep, that's the part. Do you also try to anticipate the scares, which just leads to you always being on edge and overcome with anxiety? Because that's one of my big problems with horror in games.

Nice to know it got to others as well. I was very late to the party with Uncharted (just played it last year, actually) and never heard anything about that part beforehand. It caught me way off-guard.

Do you play horror games regularly? Or at all? You're probably just a kind of person who has no trouble with those sorts of things, or maybe you've played enough horror games that they don't bother you. But I don't play those kinds of games at all. There was even a moment where I questioned if I wanted to continue playing Mass Effect after the first Husk encounter. And I did quit BioShock about an hour or so into it and never came back.

Don't know about the OP, but I just showered him with every grenade I could get my hands on (they are littered around the room) and eventually he went down. It's really unfortunate because DE:HR was my favourite game of last year aside from the awful bosses; if you really wanted to make another go of it I'd recommend reading a FAQ before hand to know what skills you should have before each boss, it makes the second one in particular a lot easier.

its funny....because I'm the kind of person who would stay the hell away from horror games and horror movies

the first part of Bioshock was really creepy, even a little scary (this was my first FPS/gaming experience) but wasnt scary enough to put me off...just damn unsettling

the last time a game ever freaked me out was when I saw that 90 minute video on Indoctrination theory (the one I posted) and the part where it talked about the "piles of bodies" and compared faces and such....later that night I actually layed in my bed..completly freaked out, more than I should have been

oh and a creepy pasta story on a fiction morrorwind mod (in fact its usually game related stuff that freaks me out th emost)

so its not like I dont scare, I guess its just different things...

didnt find deadspace scary eather, but aparently no one does (scariest part in dead space 2 as when a smiling sun decoration pops up in your face)

The first boss in Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox. The old guy with the nun-chucks... I'm glad I was able to keep going and complete the whole game, as it still stands as one of my favourites.

I almost never finished Person 3 either, for no reason other than something new must have come out. I was literally a few days from the encounter with Nyx, but there was at least a 10 month gap from me coming back and finishing it off.

Reloaded a save before I went in, gathered grenades and suitably destructive weapons before doing the entire mission over again so I could have an actual chance of beating him. Needless to say I learned my lesson and kept an eye out for upcoming boss fights and planned accordingly. The whole experience was moderately terrible and its the only thing that poisons the game for me.
