The real kick in the nads was it happened on the day after Christmas.
My dog died of Pneumonia on Boxing Day. Most people I tell that don't know dogs can get pneumonia. Believe me, they can.

Most of my pets have had boring deaths usually involving cars. But there was one cat I had with a collection of nicknames and none of them considered an actual name. But for the sake of it let's call her Toilet Cat.

Toilet Cat was a very friendly pet, snugging on everyone's lap, and accepting baths and hairdryers. She hardly moved most of the time because she was terribly sick. We spent over a thousand dollars at the vet trying to keep her alive. Turns out she had diphtheria. At least that's what the CDC said. Supposedly they have a poster of her in their offices or something.

One night when my mother and I got home from the mall we saw her in the driveway with a puddle of blood coming out of her nose. A full autopsy was ordered to find out what caused her death. Turns out her head was under the car's tire and we nudged forward slightly when we left.

Not such a strange death, but considering all the effort trying to keep her alive it was pretty anticlimactic.

i once won a gold fish at a fair. I was driving home with a young lady, who had the fish in a small bowl resting on her lap - i was young and sily and driving too fast and i turned sharply. The fish(and a fair bit of water) went out the open window never to be seen again.

My sympathies to all here who have lost pets they felt for.

I had a hamster in a plastic cage once. The hamster thought it could eats it way out of the plastic cage. It was horribly mistaken.

Death via plastic poisoning or internal bleeding. Unsure which. It occupies a plot of land in my front yard.

EDIT: Whoa, story above mine eerily similar.

My friend Brian had a pet snake that drowned itself. Well, that's what we assume because he found it dead with it's head submerged in it's water bowl...
Then it's true killer is still out there! Someone or SOMETHING is out there murdering household snakes, yours was the first of many I'm sure

I had a small army of Frogs most of them died of assorted reasons (none due to neglect) till I only had three left. By now they where all grownup. Sometime later I came home from school and discovered my converted aquarium swarming with hundreds of ants. I only managed to only save one Frog (Froggey). Then the unprovoked ant attack was met with my genocidal rampage. I tracked down there nest and proceeded to bleach the living hell out of it and all other nests I found in my backyard.

Artiest Rendition of my victory over the ant menace.

Sorry about your frogs but your story (The revenge part, not the horrible senseless murders) is made of WIN, and I deeply wish I could meet you in person and shake your hand.

....Fucking hate ants

Heh, my cat drank anti freeze from my car. Cat got coyote'd, cat got some disease and died, cat died for no reason, cat met .22. We love cats.

Also amusingly groundhogs climb trees, we knocked it out, it ran across the driveway only to get hit by my dads friends car.

this thread is depressing.
annyway.

I had a cat we rescued from an abandoned house, left there by their old owner.
He was afraid of everyone but me (for some reason) he was about 1 when he ran away, or when we thought he ran away. He had wandered into a garage and the owner unknowingly shut the door on him. About 2 weeks later he came home, and we were surprised to say the least. But he died a few days later in the basement. Apparently the cat drank some anti-freeze thinking it was water when he got thirsty during the 2 weeks.

Our older cat, who pretty much adopted the cat we rescued as his son, and actually showed him the ropes around the neighborhood was laying next to the body. The older cat eventually ran away.

My mom didn't like the two fish my grandma got for me, so she threw them into the toilet and flushed em away. I miss those fish.

Funny that this thread should pop up the morning after I dream about my rats dying. I have a recurring dream where I take in a whole lot of abandoned/homeless rats and keep them with my two, but this time I came home to find the rat cage on fire with all of the rats panicking and dying inside. I could only save a couple, and was so traumatised that my legs buckled and I couldn't hold myself upright in my dream.

My last two rats faded away at half the age they should have lived to. They were sisters- the first to die got a pituitary tumour and couldn't walk, eat, drink or even stand without falling over. For the last few days I kept her in a pouch in my shirt, and eventually took her to be put down.

The thing with rats is that they're so sociable, and if one cagemate dies, the other/s need to see the body to understand that they're gone. If they don't, the remaining rats can spend weeks searching for the missing one. So I showed the dead rat's body to her sister, and man- I honestly never thought a rat's face could fall. The remaining rat became depressed and faded away not long after.

Before anyone says I'm being melodramatic about rats mourning, do your research.

This thread is really really sad. I cry when my pets die. (I love my pets)

One doggy got hit my a car, it was just an accident though

My hamster was eaten by my cat, the cat knocked the cage off the table and because the cage broke could get the hamster..damn cat...we only ever found the head

My last cat got really sick and it was not pretty at the end. She kept having fits and gone really thin so we finally put her down.

It is sad to hear about pets strangling themselves. I never collar my pets, only microchips.

My mum thought it would be a good idea to feed my goldfish bread, she was wrong. Also a lionfish ate about 3 other fishes in our old house's aquarium, then a few weeks later died of some disease, the funny thing is i was exited because i thought it had learned a new trick(backstroke)
