Conspiracy theories aside, that would suck if it was any country's president and a chunk of their government dies in a plane crash (except perhaps Zimbabwae[footnote]Yes, I realise that's spelt wrong.[/footnote]).

That really sucks, losing so many important people at once. I hope they can recover fast to enough before there is chaos amongst the people. And by the way, I just want to thank my fellow escapists for not pointing fingers at us Muslims and saying it was a terrorist attack as part of an elaborite plan to wipe out "infidels" and be rewarded with 72 virgins in heaven (seriously, who comes up with this shit? we never said any of that stuff, you only hear Americans talking about the "infidels" and virgins thing; wtf).

Well, they have someone in charge (infact more things get done with less people in charge). It will also only be six months for their election.

In light of these facts, it seems that people are pretending that Poland was picked up and dropped on it's face from 2000000 miles up onto Smolensk.

We in Britain have a prime minister that has done nothing useful for four years (an a government which has done nothing useful for at least 12 years).

I doubt that anything ill (other than those deaths) will come of this, unless of course Russia did it (as some seem to think).

Nergal from Behemoth was being prosacuted by the polish government for tearing up a bible.
Slightly suspicious.
Atleast he wasn't in the plane ^^

Now THAT would be a tragedy.
Oh it'd be a black day for metal.
Possibly one of the most badass frontmen ever dieing.
I dread the day.

Why did they put them all on the same plane?

In Britain, they never let Prince William and Prince Henry on the same plan FOR THIS EXACT REASON.

Actually, while there are a lot of the government officials on board they aren't essential. Most of the government is still intact, the whole "head of state" position is more symbolic in most countries.

Still it's really sad, but I think people are exaggerating towards the fate of Poland. They'll be fine.
I wouldn't call the Executive branch "more symbolic" for a country like Poland.

Entities that are "Symbolic" don't go for meetings about trade with the leaders of foreign countries.

I don't think you

What? Care to support that statement with some fact? Otherwise I suggest you save comments like that for the Religion And Politics forum.

That's why you don't pile your entire government body onto 1 plane. This should be interesting on how Poland tries to recover from this one.

Read about it earlier. I'm really interested in hearing more about this. I know America has a long list of people to take over in case of emergency, but does Poland have that?

I doubt anything sinister is going on, it's Poland...

Still, this is quite the tragedy and here's hoping they have some good provisions in place for just such an emergency.

Too bad that I'm already here.

Since I'm probably the only polish person in this thread, let's make some things clear:

Poland is eventually going to profit after our president died. Sorry for this quite an agressive oppinion, but he, and a couple of more people on board of that plane succesfully halved any progress for the last couple of years and did an effing circus out of our foreign relations. His relations with Russia were so bad, that it already makes many people think how much of a tree was in that "tree" that plane was supposed to collide with. Not to mention he was basically a puppet of the Catholic Church. Even the current, temporary one is considered to be a much better politician.

Horrible shame for his wife and the other passengers though. Shit is bound to hit the fan because in a single event we lost:
The President
Chief of The Army
Chief of The Air Force
Chief of The Navy
Chief of the Army General Staff
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Minister of Citizen Rights
Minister of Tourism
President of the National Bank of Poland
not mentioning other major politicians, members of the senate, officers, bishops, and basically well known people.

What one poster before mentioned is that this will create a bit of a power vacuum, and to be more precise, a lot of people arguing about everything, especially about who is going to replace who for the next couple of years. How bad it will be, we'll see.

If someone's interested, here's the current leader:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronis%C5%82aw_Komorowski

It should be noted, that he has a massive chance of being our next actual president.

The most uncomfortable thing for me, a Russian, is that they were going to visit a memorial which is a huge graveyard where mostly Polish people who died during Soviet opression are buried.
It's in Smolensk, I've been there.
Horrible place.
