It could be but unfortunalty it was made with some errors.
1. The combat system was pretty much just swing and miss 99/100 times
2. The enviroment was just ash. . . thats it
3. Cliffracers
4. Main story mission was terrible, nobody wanted to complete it
5. Magic Is useless (cept walk on water)
6. CLIFFRACERS!

but the dialog and RPG part of the game is epic
Ill just add two more to this.

7. Really slow to start.
8. CLIFFRACERS!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Although these things did improve, slowly. It still had room to grow. So its not the greatest.

Maybe not the best ever, but it is definitely in my "Top 5 Best Games Evar", and its also WAY better than oblivion.
While I'm on the subject, the night eye in oblivion was god awful, everything being blue is so annoying.
Edit: Okay, maybe not "better" than oblivion, but I had WAY more fun playing it.

Nope. The world felt completely dead. It really did nothing to draw me into it.

If you consider it a set of rules, yes, it was among the best. If you consider it a "role-playing" experience, it was frankly pretty poor. All you ever were in Morrowind was a set of statistics and a quest log, and the world was nothing more than a static backdrop. At least you could see consequences for your actions in Oblivion.

I enjoyed Vampire the masquerade bloodlines more but it was a great game. So my opinion is that it is the second best RPG ever.
Funny, I'm playing that one right now and I'm finding a few niggling annoyances about it. First of which, sometimes I don't get any other dialogue choice except the asshole response. I realize that I'm a vampire, but that doesn't mean I have to be an asshole. Second, Get Quest->try to complete quest->to complete quest must do a completely different quest.

Anyway, as for Morrowind, it was certainly a great RPG and it gave me many hours of entertainment, however I don't know if I'd name it 'Best RPG Ever'. Maybe best RPG of it's time, yeah, but ever? no, I don't think so. After all it did have a number of fundamental flaws, not the least of which were those bloody cliffracers. Also it did get rather boring walking from place to place (when you weren't getting assaulted by cliffracers). Yeah I know there were the silt striders, but those only went to certain places and cost money.

I loved morrowind so much but after playing oblivion i just can't go back. I like the story, the environments, and the dialog much better in morrowind but the combat in oblivion is just so much better that i can't go back.

NOTHING CAN BE THE ALMIGHTY! RANDOLPH DUTCH! EXCEPT A PLAYER WHO DIDN'T ACT LIKE A TARD BEFORE MEETING HIM! (though really really the people he kills must be really fucking incompetent or something cause your the only one able to kill him but lo and behold all it would is one fucker whose fast on his feet with a SMG)

anyway, features my second favourite villain, and makes every fucking design choice i would if i was making a sandbox RPG zombie game, actual roleplaying, a south-park-esque art style, and other goodies make ma favorite.

Okay, asking us to not bring up a game we think actually takes the title, or another game period, really limits this to a 'yes', 'no' or 'third option.' So yeah, I guess that leaves me with: no.

My pick is Fallout 2. I'm a maverick!

Well no, there is no best RPG ever. Although Morrowind had some of the best worlds to be in...its combat was a tad annoying.

Planescape: Torment is the best RPG EVAR

Well, no.

I'm not the biggest RPG player, but one thing i know, is a good game, and morrowin is very very far away from that title.

State your Opinion. (Within Question)

[Edit]
No offense, But I didn't make this thing for everybody to say "No Final Fantasy is Better".
Leave Final Fantasy out of this.
I want to know what you thought was good about it.

[Another Edit]
Oblivion was the bastard child of Morrowind, Also don't bring that game either.
Maybe just leave the other RPG's out of it.
I just want to know in your opinion in it was the best RPG ever.
Not your favourite RPG's just this one.

[Yet Another Edit]
Okay i've changed the question.
Simpler.
Problem is dude, if your asking about RPG's you gotta expect others to be mentioned >.<

Thats like me saying erm.... "Shellshock 2" good FPS and expecting no one to mention BC2, MW2, Halo....

HAH, no. Baldur's Gate 2 still retains that title.
BG2 is also my favorite. I did spend a lot of time with Morrowind though. There were still a lot of things that bothered me, like the fact that magic was absolute shit, you could easily get all the skills (so the only personalization is in the order in which you get them) and it was too easy to break the game's difficulty. I think I enjoyed a heavily modded Oblivion more, but I have to admit that I probably spent more time with Morrowind and actually finished it. So, I'd say it's good, but not nearly the best.
