Hey guys, I've just installed Morrowind, and lo and behold - I have no idea what to do? I've trundled around for an hour or so, and it all looks awesome, but I feel like my Dunmer needs some direction. So I call upon you to give me something to do, an objective, a quest or just tell me where something hilarious is!

From what I've heard, there's a ton of stuff in this game, and I'm a little intimidated, so help a brother out, yo.

Find the Talking Mudcrab. He is somewhere south of the Azura Shrine. I thinks thats the name probably not. It'd be better if you google that though. Or level up to 63. That was my highest morrowind level.
I'll do my best. Also, how big is the world? Bigger than Oblivion or not?

Did you go to Caius yet? That'll be a good place to start. Then join a guild. It's not as overwhelming if you just say "Screw it, I'ma do this!" and then do something decisive. You'll find yourself on some kind of manageable path that way.

I live in Britain, and we killed all the elves a few years back, so there isn't much left to do :/

Smaller than Oblivion. I think somewhere around 16 square km? Maybe that was Oblivion.

Wellcome to one of the best games of all time.

Anyway, if this is your first time playing prepare to die a lot especially if:
1. You made your own class
or
2. You wander randomly.
You'll be exploring along fine and finding loads of awesome scenery then BOOM random high level monster comes over the hill and rapes you. (Sorry but i got distracted with bad memories)

Anyway there are a couple of quests in the starting town seyda neen but if you want to continue the main quest balmora is for you, be careful to follow main roads and you'll be fine.

I'd say the best bit of advice for someone beginning the game for the first time is to play along with whatever you like and if you get bored/stuck then find a guide online and follow it until you feel better about where you are.

Final point is whatever you do DON'T just use the same skill over and over to level your character, it'll be horribly broken and it will be impossible to complete even half the game.

We still have dwarfs, but we can't call them that anymore...

Bigger, or so I seem to remember.

Did you skip through all the dialog at the beginning? you're given a package that you're supposed to deliver to Caius Cosades (spelling?) in Balmora, witch can be easily reached via the Silt Strider for about 30 GP.

Or just join a guild, and do their quests. If you want definite short term goal, then go look for Creeper in Caldera.

Well, first I'd go to Balmora and talk to Caius Cosades, seeing as he as a main story quest. Then, join a guild, and a House. Finally, make a separate save file and kill everyone.

Enjoy your doomed world!

How dare you insinuate I would skip through an RPG! I'm in Balmora right now, kinda lost. Where is this Caldera you speak of?

That's because in morrowind you have to walk a lot more, where as in Oblivion you could warp yourself from a to b. There is public transit in Morrowind, but only a hand full of teleport spells.

On topic: Do the main quest. It takes you across various factions you can join, if you want to.

It's smaller, it's just denser. It feels about the same size.

Bigger. Also more Freedom. Oblivion is more vibrant but Morrowind has more freedom. Get a ton of money and go to the enchanter to give you Constant effect stuff. On Daedric Katanas get Health Steal Per Strike or something like that and get Exquisite Clothes and Constant effect health Regain and you become immortal basically lol.

Also ignore people who do that ????, Profit thing. They are just rolls.

It is a little overwhelming at first. That's actually the best part. When you're still stumbling around in this vast, exciting new place.

Best thing you can do is to join a few guilds. There are some trainers in there, but you don't have enough gold and they'll only help you up to a point. You COULD cheat with the help of a certain spell, but that's no fun.

Take a few missions and go nuts. Melee fighting will be a pain in the ass at first, but as you reach higher levels and begin to actually hit things, it becomes easier.

Man, I really want to play Morrowind now. Wonder where the hell my copy went.

I made a video showing where he is. Apparently it's quite a popular video too, 31,622 views!!

I'd suggest doing small sidequests in Seyda Need and Balmora until you reach level 10, advancing in the Mages, Fighters and Thieves guilds a little too. Then you'll be set to go out and explore.

Try searching for the old wet note, in a bottle on the seabed waaay up north. Oh, and the one and only muffin. While you're at it, if you're early in the game, very quickly sort yourself out with some water breathing potions and then activate the Bothias Shrine quest. You need to do it within 30 days of starting apparently.

You'll love the quest reward, guaranteed. If you need any pointers then I can help :)

There are quite a bit of quests in the first town. (Seyda Neen)

There's also a cave near the first town that has a couple of bandits in it.
The cave can be kind of difficult if you didn't make your character properly, but it's still pretty easy.
