God he was cheap. It's bad enough he takes forever to kill and his moves do tremendous damage, but he doesn't even flinch half the time you attack him.
AND HE FRICKIN' SPAMS HIS MJOLNIR HAMMER TOSS ALL THE DAMN TIME!!!!
I was only able to beat him on the last fight, either due to a glitch or because the game just felt sorry for me, he almost never stopped taunting, even after I attacked him he continued taunting me instead of attacking back.

I did beat him "fairly" the other times though, thank god for the bicycle kick.

Maybe it's because I played against him in the old games but i thought he wasn't too bad. Just hand back and wait for him to taunt than attack. Much easier when you have a teleport move. At least all his attacks have some way to dodge them. (jumping, dashing or ducking) Not like the old days.
Those were Nintendo hard.

Heh...if you want to beat him but dont want to lower difficulty...Tag Ladder. Thats what I did. You still fight one Shao Kahn, but have two players, ie two health bars to beat him. Most characters also have an effective method to beat him.

I hate him with a fiery passion. He usurped Seth's position as Supreme Emperor Bullshit Magician. I want to beat his designers in the balls with a sledgehammer for their insolence. If you have to overpower a character that much to create difficulty, you fail as a designer. Period.

That said, I can rape the shit out of him as Ermac when I'm driven to the level of lunacy it takes to want to fight him.

Oh, and Goro can suck a fat mule dong as well. He's nowhere near the bullshit magician that Shao Kahn is, but he's still a prick.
lolGoro. He's about as hard as Kintaro. Which is to say, not at all. .___. at least, not for me. They never EVER block anything I throw at them.

As for Shao Kahn, he is too cheap for me to care about fighting him "the right way." I find the most effective ranged attack a character has and beat him down with it. What's funny is if you get him to block the first time, you can get Kahn stuck in a guardlock. I sat there spamming the same projectile again and again while he blocked blocked blocked. Annnd I waited until his health finally drained out because of it. xD It felt even more satisfying to whoop his ass with Scorpion, who doesn't even have an effectively spammable ranged attack. Kahn never blocked be for some reason, so I speared him, did the teleport attack, and use Doom Blade(I think that's what it's called(ps3 controls)) <-+Triangle, Square, Circle. I would watch Kahn perform a humorous backflip and I would repeat the process until dead. Actually, despite being the only one I couldn't effectively rangespam Khan with, Scorpion is the only character I used that managed to get a Flawless Victory against Kahn. Which made it even more satisfying.

Well I do agree that his moves are the cheapest of all, but he is easy to understand once you've died for oh, 38 TIMES! No lie, He threw his unblockable sledgehammer at me 4 times in a row! I could not move one inch because of the damn dizzy effect! DX

You guys realise the whole point of MK9 was to go back to the days of the arcade, where gameplay way fun but unforgiving, and it actually took some serious skill to beat an entire game. That's why he's hard, fans asked for it essentially. People loved the old arcade MK games but now we got one with HD graphics, everyone feels like they're getting kicked in the nuts because their memories are messed up and arcade games were incredibly frustrating at times. None of you guys are embracing the true spirit of arcade games after you whined and moaned to get an arcade like game from the MK series. That's pretty hypocritical guys. I also want to say that I know not all fans wanted an arcade game that bad and I'm generalising, and if that's the case with you, then just move on and don't be a douche about it.

Shao Kahn is difficult but if you keep your distance and keep firing projectiles at him he will be defeated quickly. Considering how difficult Azazel is in Tekken 6. I consider the fights with Shao Kahn to be easy.

Plus, Shao Kahn is one of the main antagonists in the Mortal Kombat universe. He has to be difficult to beat for him to live up to his legacy.

Well i have not played portal 2 yet so i can't help you with that but mortal kombat is an awesome game, the story is great and there are many things to do, challenge tower, arcade ladder, tag team, tag team arcade ladder, fatality tutorials just to name a few. if you are looking for a great fighting game, this is the best of this year

I've played them both and it really depends on which one interests you more. Do you prefer a fighting game over a puzzle game? I personally liked Portal 2 over Mortal Kombat because Shao Kahn is so incredibly difficult and he alone made me stopped playing it. I went out later that day, bought Portal 2 and I haven't played Mortal Kombat since.

Thanks to you both.
I have only played one mortal kombat game before (can't remember which one but it had reptile as a scaly green guy if that helps... and raidens fatality was electrocute them then rip them apart above his head. was on the ps2.) but i did like it. I've never played a portal game before, but i love physics based games. If its a choice between the two, i'm still not sure. having read reviews for both games and asked a few friends who have played both, i'm still not any closer to deciding. i may have to get both. if i can afford it. but thanks for your help. appreciate it.

Ok... simple point to give here.

He's the BOSS of the game. Bosses are MEANT to be overly difficult. The whole point of playing up till facing him is so that you're learning to fight against the odds. If you have to whinge and moan about it rather than getting off your high-horse and just keep trying, you shouldn't bother trying to play the game in the first place.

I'm not that far in the story but Shao Kahn has always been a cheap SoB. He's never been fun to fight as a last boss because he's overpowered. Enemies that are hard because they ignore mechanics that are central to the game everywhere else (knockbacks, obeying blocks etc) and hit you for a ton of extra damage are just badly designed.

I had fun, even though it was mildly frustrating, fighting Shang Tsung. His AI seemed a bit more aggressive than the others and he was a good solid opponent without being all overpowered and poorly designed.

Goro was just stupid. If I got close he'd decimate me but he almost never blocked so I could keep doing the same move over and over so long as it started farther away. And his little I STOMP ON GROUND AND HURT YOU move is freaking dumb. Any time most players feel they need to resort to cheesy AI exploits and boring play to overcome a boss, you've failed miserably as a designer.

Bottom line, there are better more intelligent ways to make an end boss more challenging. Because being a cheap overpowered SoB isn't challenging, it's just lame and annoying.

I hate Shao Kahn, he's cheaper than a 5cent whore with a 7cent coupon. However I can usually beat him with most characters due to their teleport/projectile/uppercut jump technique. Goro and Kintaro are annoying as all hell, but the same thing there. SHANG TSUNG CAN GO ROT IN HELL!!! I swear HE is the most cheap and annoying person to beat in this game for me, I especially hate his triple floor fire combo, you know, when he knocks you down then creates fires on the ground in a way that juggles you. I always choose the most painful Fatality for him.

The problem is that they went to far in making him difficult. Sure he's beatable, but most people are forced to use really cheap tactics like spamming long range attacks. That's not strategy, that's cheap.

You're thinking of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, my second favorite MK game (Behind the new one) and yes it was pretty cool. You might want to pick up the Orange Box instead of Portal 2, since you can find it cheaper than either game (it also depends on what Your're playing on) or find a deal that gives You Portal, by itself such as on Steam or by purchasing Portal: Still Alive off of XBLA.

after 10 or so attempts, i managed to beat shao khan using scorpion. i'd like to think i didn't use too many cheap moves on him. i teleported as he made his attack and caught him in a spear combo. it was very satisfying when i got him in a combo that trasitioned into an xray combo.

i agree that shang tsung is extremely cheap with his ground fireballs.

Goro is so easy! Kintaro is a little harder than goro, with his fireballs and flame thrower but even he is easy.

To beat them just be fast, jump over them and kick, sweep there legs, do a punch combo, jump over and kick repeat. Throw in the odd projectile and X-ray move.

The only real trouble is Shao Khan. First time I just fireballed his ass, now I am working on teleporting then kicking him in the face. (I find it easier to press circle than uppercut, less buttons and stuns him for a split second as he turns from the kick).

Also what happened to Sheva? Did she get demoted 'cos I am sure she used to be a boss (not fully fledged boss) and now she seems to be slumming it with the rest of the cast.

Kano is a pain in the arse with his cannon ball attack thing, that move is the second most spammed attack after Shao Khans spears.

Thats the one.
I have a PS3 so XBLA is a no no. I've been looking around for the orange box but i haven't found it anywhere. I'm planning to try and get it next week if i get portal 2. If i get MK then I won't. If i get both then I won't have enough for the orange box as well.

Uhh, excuse me! Relevant point of interest!

Shao Kahn has ALWAYS been cheap from DAY ONE when he first appeared in Mortal Kombat II! This complaint is nothing new!
This.
I hate him.
And as a kid I would hit reset on my ps1 when I reached him.

Thank you, Captain Condescending. I can beat Goro just fine. And Kintaro is far easier to beat than Goro.
