Minecraft isn't really "addictive," I think, but have I found myself playing it for three or four hours at a time. Still, it kindof loses its' luster when I can't think of anything to build or plain don't feel like playing it.

I'd have to say Bioware RPGs in general because I've sat down to start playing early in the morning and stopped when the daylight had vanished for the night multiple times, going through multiple playthroughs until I decide I don't care anymore about whatever I haven't seen/done before.

Civilization series.

Total War series.

Both are deeply complex games with turn-based play. Addictive formula discovered.

Alpha Centauri is even worse in its addictiveness, but truly butt-ugly...

I tried to play Alpha Centuari, but I just couldn't get past it's look.
I don't get where all the hate for Alpha Centauri graphics came from, it looks just fine to me.

I think the Aesthetics have held up perfectly well.

I couldn't get into it myself, but that's just because I was no good at it.

OT: The most addictive games I can think of right now are Mass Effect 2 and more recently, L.A. Noire. I literally spent all of the free-time I could playing both of those until I finished them, they were just so good that I didn't want to do anything else.
Let me be perfectly clear: the game is amazing, but it looks like my bathroom after a night of heavy drinking. I'd happily pay $100 for a remake, just as long as it comes in colors other than blood red, placenta purple, vomit brown, and what-the-hell-did-I-eat green excrement. Normally I'm not at all picky about graphics, but even I have limits...
Have you taken a look at the Planetfall mod for Civ IV? http://www.moddb.com/mods/planetfall

I would have to say pretty much any game I've played by Bioware. Knights of the Old Republic stole a large chunk of my life, and recently Dragon Age: Origins has been consuming my life, keeping me awake long into the early hours of the morning, just begging me to play it more and do more things and unlock more achievements and... sorry, i forgot what i was saying...

Oh, and Fable. the original version. murdering everything with the Sword of Aeons was oddly satisfying...

You are truly evil, you know that? Here I was just planning on spending time outside and reading over the summer, and then you come along and show me this. Thanks a lot, now I'll never leave my apartment. Bastard :p

Hopefully this works with my Steam version...

Recently I've had this problem where The Witcher (1) pulled me into its world and I just couldn't escape until I finished the game. The story of that game is just amazing.

But surprisingly enough that doesn't seem to also be the case with The Witcher 2, quick time events (especially during conversations) are making me load or quit the game to often, thus breaking the immersion.

Tetris. I usually only play it these days to kill time and before you know it it's been 3 and a half hours and i'm late for whatever I was killing time for.

Rome: Total War just took over my life for months and months at a time. I thought about it in school, I imagined how different strategies would play out on the campaign and battle maps. What different groups of units could defend a city in the best way, the best way to go about keeping the economy stable and everyone happy, etc.

Maybe not ever, but I could play Just Cause 2 forever and still have fun with it. I just can't wait for my class to be over so I can play some more video games.

It used to be Oblivion for me, but after over 2000 hours over the last 5 years I'm quite sick of it. No game can last forever. The most you can hope for is pleasant memories as you put it to rest.

Modern Warfare 2. Yeah. Clocked about 30 days on multi-player alone. Altogether about 40-50 days spent playing that game. That seems...wow. Really...unreal. Ah well. I had a lot of fun playing it and a lot of free time to play it in. Though I wish I had spent a big percentage of that time on other games.

At the moment, it's Terraria for me.
I can't keep myself away from it.

So many games apply in my mind, but number 1 is probably Tetris. Y'know. Because it doesn't have an "ending", but a "You lose. Play again?"

Edit: Darn it! Ninja'd.
