So my fellow escapists, What is the most addictive game you have ever played? I'm not talking Online Multiplayer addictiveness, but I mean the game that absolutely pulled you into its core and refused to let you escape from its grasp.
Who says a multiplayer game can't do that? I remember spending an entire night playing Battlefield 1942 with my friends, yelling military jargon that we didn't understand in the least at each other. Twas good times.

Single player? Well, KotOR ate up a long time of my life, and more recently, the Mass Effects have done the same. Red Dead Redemption also did this, to the point of me calling off work two days in a row to beat the damn thing. I don't know if I've ever really been immersed in a game, and the creepy way people talk about immersion kinda makes me happy about this, but I have been addicted to games.

Just 423 more bands of looters before I can buy new boots!
Seriously, stuff was way too expensive in that series. . .
OT: Almost anything with Sid Meier's in front of it. Civilization was my intro to gaming.

For me, It would have to be Banjo Kazooie for N64. This game took from me months and months of time away from my life. I remember when I was younger I would wake up at 4 in the morning just to play Banjo Kazooie before I everyone else woke up.
Great game, was definitely one of my favorites back in the day.

Back in the day it was easier for me to get addicted to a game than it is now, the flaws just seem to stand out more now.

I suppose any of the final fantasy games were tons of fun back in the day, especially tactics, though now the series seems to be going downhill :(

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town gets me every time. I still can't figure out why farming is so addictive in Harvest Moon.

Minecraft, obviously. At the moment, however, The Witcher 2 is doing that for me. I look at the clock and see it's 23:30 - "Ok, I'll just finish this quest I'm in the middle of, then go to bed." Five minutes later - "Why do I feel so tired?" I look at the clock again and it's now 2 AM.

Pokemon....15 years and I am STILL playing that goddamn game.

I can relate to that. And so can my cuzin.
I'm 18, she's 21 next week. I brought pokemon emerald over to hers a few weeks back. She hadn't played any pokemon games since red and blue era. She picked it up, put it in her gameboy advanced (doesn't have a ds otherwise i'd give her diamond or platinum. fuck no is she getting my pokemon white) and she didn't talk for the rest of the day. Completely and totally oblivious to the world.
i was the same whenever i got a new pokemon game.

Also, the first zelda on the DS (phantom hour glass). I played that thing all night every night for a week. Didn't have a clue why. Tried to play it again a few weeks back, couldn't get into it. Weird.

Rome: Total War took a fairly long time from me, as did Oblivion. But my oblivion save crashed after 100 hours within two or three weeks and it wouldn't work so i had to give up on it at the time D:

Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda Link to the Past, played through those games more than any others i have had before and since. I still play through every so often and revisit my childhood.

The Civilization series is notorious for its "just one more turn...oh shit, it's 4am already?!" syndrome. Bloody addictive, but they are also a great series. Civ4 is my personal favorite, but you'll hear different opinions on that as well. Alpha Centauri is even worse in its addictiveness, but truly butt-ugly...
Ninja'd.

Civilization is the reason I never dated a girl until I was 16.

(Ok that's a bit of a hyperbole, but you get the idea)
