Obviously the Doom 3 Flashlight drama must rate pretty highly.

For met at the moment though it is the fog in Mount & Blade. You can't see more than 3 metres in front, it doesn't effect the enemy archers, so they just keep shooting you from miles away, and I actually get lost on the world map.

My biggest one is pathfinding in RTS games. I mean seriously, how hard can it be!?

Those damn minigames in oblivion.

Before I bought Oblivion, everyone said that the lockpicking was better than in Morrowind. They were wrong.
Ok lets get this straight, The conversation pie was bloody stupid and i despised every last bribe i had to force down each and every NPCs throat, but the lockpicking was extremely easy, if you took the time to learn it you could go through the entire game on one pick, and if that's your gripe with it then fine, but i have to laugh at all the people who like to tell you about how many picks they wasted in the run of that game.

Blazing Angels... the arrogance and stupidity of the plot line and the characters REALLY got on my nerves...

I guess I should thank that game though... after that horrid experience I decided to research about games before buying them!

Any mechanic that involves making a recovery over time, then puts you in an area that isn't dangerous at all, but still makes you wait a good ten minutes or so for your shield/health/mana/whatever to recover.

Every protect-the-NPC mission in every game ever.

I really, really loved Red Faction way back when, but on every replay, when I came to the protecting mission, a part of me would die and decide to quit. I don't think it was even that difficult, I just couldn't.

Also, protecting Farah in that elevator scene in Sands of Time.

Yeah, but once you got the skeleton key it was just a waste of time.

Alone in the Dark had a blink button. A BLINK button. You might as well pull the two triggers to inhale and exhale.

The movement/camera angles of tales of money island, I downloaded the free first section for pirate day and the controls were hideous. For those who have'nt tried it its click and drag movement with an eye level camera in 3D.
I seriously don't understand the hate this is generating. Use WASD. Problem solved. ##

Wow, stunningly original contribution that you totally didn't rip from UnSkippable.

I'm fine with escort missions if done well (Ico, RE4) but most of the time they're infuriating. There's also the horrendous combination in some games of platforming + enemies + time limit. Two out of three is just passable, but ALL of them is a nightmare (I'm looking at YOU Half-Life 2)

The airplane controls in Saints Row 2.... Airplanes and Helicopters are there, but the controls are horrible, there's no way I'm winning any races in those things.

The game mechanic that has been making me want to eat my own face recently is your partner in RE5. I HATE THAT *****! At the start of the game she seemed interesting, but only after 15 minutes i wanted to kill her myself. She is 100% useless. She can't shoot to save her life, at times I thought she was secretly eating the bullets i gave her. Yahtzee talked about the healing bit, so I'm not gonna repeat that part. Good thing I removed her weapons and now it's not that bad, but she still manages to get me into trouble. On that level with the mirros and the elevators she just stands there and doesn't move until I finish the puzzle. And that is usually good, but when I was dying and I started yelling "Come help me, I'm not gonna make it!" she just said "No, I can't. The game designers were idiots and thought it was going to be hard to make me avoid the deadly sun beams, so they made me stand there like a fucking statue". And so I died, 3 meters in front of her. And that thing with the last quarter of your health can suck my balls also!

In the first Marathon games you could only save when you were at a terminal. There weren't too many around, seldomly at the beginning of a level. So if you died midway any given level, you had to restore your savegame from the previous one.

The fact that you had to quit the game and load a save game from the menu was a real fail in gameplay and interface design too.

By Halo Bungie had sorted all these quirks out.

Escort missions, my GOD the escort missions. They are EVERYWHERE, the AI is always retarded and useless and they INSIST on putting them in game after game after GAME!! WHY DO THEY HATE US SO?!! I play for fun and action, not to drag the Presidents daughters retarded ass through half the game and keep her from setting off an Amber Alert with the guys in robes

The new Golden Axe, Beast Riders I think it was called. The first and only game I ever got a full refund for. What was really sad was I had a choice between it or Dead Space when I bought it. Chose wrong but luckily my mistake was rectified.

the whole damn fighting system in "Pit Fighter" for the SNES... that game was a bowl of turd served with mucus custard...

I bought it way way back when SNES was still the popular gaming console of the time... for $2 off of a pal of mine who needed money... wasn't worth the $2

Shinobi PS2. The game made your health gauge a timer, and the only way to keep it up was to kill. Worst idea, ever.

Call Of Duty shotguns. I understand they have a wide spread. HOWEVER. They do not have a 10 foot range of 1 hit kill then anything 11ft plus doesn't even take damage. Shotguns in CoD 4 are like glorified knives xD.

Oh, the skydiving section of WET was REALLY annoying as well, at least it is on hard mode.
