We all know when they're going to be said or done in a film or show. That action a director believes will set his work apart, but really make it among the hundreds that have already used it.

List the ones you really can't stand seeing. For me, its:
-ultra high-tech government/military computer graphical user interfaces (UI/GUI) with all the swoosh noises and blue color
-"This is the end." "No, it's only the beginning."

-Main character's tutor/guardian/teacher dies defending him or her

-guy falls off edge but miraculously there is a thing he holds onto

-people happen to speak English, if only simply, all over the world

-car chase

-landmark is destroyed by op4 (like Magneto breaking Golden Gate, Cobra eating away at Eiffel Tower, Decepticons remove pyramid top)

-guy trying to save another guy from falling, but the falling guy is like "Oh, let me go, save yourself!" or something

-the world's savior is this... guy. Just this everyday guy, who happens to be the Chosen One.

How about you Escapists?

"It was all just a dream".

Somehow, one of my favourite films actually uses that. And no, I can't tell you which one it is, because that would be spoiling, my dear children.

The attractive girl

Why in any quest ever, whether it is getting a job, killing a demon or stopping terrorists, there is an initially hostile girl who becomes attached to lead guy. I don't know that many attractive girls, and most of them are initially hostile because they actually don't like me

I just can't stand bad guys who can't shoot. Apparently, aiming isn't a requirement for being the legion of terror that took over the world.

The one that gets me the most annoyed is the half trained new guy is able to defeat the evil badass when the other good badasses of the world couldn't.

Grenades as a deus ex machina device and, more generally, the refusal for anyone to do any kind of professional consultation on how weapons actually work, look, and sound. Grenades don't really produce huge fireball explosions that can destroy supposedly otherwise indestructible materials, you know. I'm so tired of every modern movie being shameless explosion pr0n.

Oh, and lens flares. Freaken lens flares.

Unnaturally intelligent animals.
Bullets that spark when they hit a wall.
Car doors that are impervious to bullets.
People who fly backwards when shot at with a handgun.
Recoil doesn't exist.
Pawns only take one shot to kill them but on the main villain you have to waste BUCKETS of magazines and still not land one hit.
Higher ranking police officers are always African-American. ALWAYS.
When the hero is secretly eavesdropping behind a cover the bad guy magically chooses that exact to go over his entire plan to take over the world. Out loud. To himself.
It's physically impossible to accelerate or stop a car without having the tires make any screeching noises. Not even on gravel or grass.
Burglars are stumbling idiots. Especially when working in pairs.

Oh, also, every time a car explodes when its gas tank is shot, I jump up and yell "GOD DAMNIT!", turn off the TV and walk out.

The antagonist finally has his the protagonist in his clutches, and is easily distracted by an outside force, giving the protagonist the opportunity he needs to knock the gun, knife, electric toothbrush out of his hand and overpower him.

My peeves are ones that contribute to stupidity in the real world. Ones such as
  • Portrayed unsafe use of firearms
    Unrealistic CPR
    Racing the train
Explosives or Fireworks demonstrated to be less dangerous than they actually are
    Drinking and Driving.

Not an inception fan, I take it?

OT: A well pulled of cliche can work real well.

Actually, I really enjoyed <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.251797-2-50-Reviews-Inception-2010>Inception. I don't consider it using that cliché at all, as the events that happened throughout the movie actually did happen. It's not like some movies where nothing matters by the end, because it all took place in a dream. That is when I don't like this cliché being used.

Off the top of my head, it really bothers me when a character makes a completely senseless decision. If such a thing is necessary to advance the convoluted plot, then it's time to rethink it.

Lecturing. Where a certain character, usually a scientist or academic of some sort, stops and takes time out to give a long boring lecture on the background information for the story, plot device, ect. Even worse in some respects are the characters who temporarily become ignorant morons in order to ask stupid questions as prompts for the lecturer,"But wait.. what are nanites?" Oh and information that has become fairly common knowledge but is treated as though its some arcane secret.

When the protagonist looks up to someone and that someone fails at their job...

Also, any and all soldiers who can't get their job done, Ive never known US military soldiers to fail that many times at killing something.

Also, when the government feels the need to nuke something and the white guy with glasses gets the girl...
