healing itself, in small ammounts, like leeched from hitting YOU, i can deal with, or if you failed to stop him from casting, thats fine.

If its just "woop, 100% hp again." thats infuriating bullshit. one round of combat just negated the last 20. yay.
I was about to rage at all the wimps here crying "I kin heel to 100% evry turn, but da boss shuldn't git a single heel!" But you actually make a rational point. Thank you for being a voice of reason amongst raving pansies.

Personally, I hate Enrage timers, at least the logic behind it. If a boss is getting obliterated, and is at 10% health within 4 minutes, he won't do a damn thing different, but the second an extra minute goes by, whether he's at 1% or 100%, "NOW I DESTROY YOU ALL!"

Also, Hard Modes, for much the same reason. In WoW, two Hard Modes back in WotLK were engaged by leaving up a series of possibly dangerous objects, strategically placed around the "leader" of the area. WHY wouldn't you destroy them before attacking the boss? Oh, and another was engaged by pressing a goddamn giant red button that says "DO NOT PRESS" We're supposed to be "heroes," not retarded DeeDee clones going "ooh, what does dis butten do?"

Lastly, persistent, increasing damage, aka "Soft Enrage Timers." Ones that have a means to wipe the increasing part away and start back at square one are fine, but if you have to deal with keeping everyone up while the damage just never stops rising, it just takes something away from the fight.

I am going to have to say heal themselves as well. Is a pain in the ass when you whittle them down to a sliver of health, then they roar and and suddenly back up to full.

Instant death attacks/events. I think that applies to any genre, though the two most bullshitty that come to mind (in recent history) are the final bosses in Bayonetta and Final Fantasy XIII. These fights are already obscenely long and BAM game over can come out of nowhere.
I hate the instant death attacks...they happen a lot in Final Fantasy in general and are a pain in the ass, especially if it's something like LVL5 Death or something that effects people dependent on their level. My party's healer always ends up vulnerable to those kinds of attacks!!

I also hate when a Boss fight seemingly ends...and then the boss turns into another form of itself. This is another big thing Final Fantasy does: fight the same boss 3-5 times as it transforms, regains health, becomes more powerful, etc. It's a pain in the ass!!

Besides Insta-kill you? (When you don't deserve it, Dead Space does it right by making you learn from Tentacle Sequences)

Take away your weapons/power-ups
Have shitty music
Regenerate Health

My two favorite boss fights (They are good boss fights) are:

Meta Ridley (Metroid Prime)
Hive Mind (Dead Space)

That thread title was misleading...
I thought of worse things my boss at work (in real life) could do to me instead of simply start yelling and firing me.
Like force me to date his ugly daughter or watch some granny porn (or scat porn if you prefer) as "skill enhancement"

Anyway, the worse thing that boss could do to you in a game is... well...

Killing you when the last saving checkpoint was half an hour ago...

or

Killing you when the last saving checkpoint was half an hour ago and corrupting your latest savegame in the process.

or

Killing you with a super cool weapon that you can never use, with the last saving checkpoint being half an hour ago and corrupting your latest savegame in the process.

or

Killing you with a super cool weapon that you can use afterwards but there are no enemies left, with the last saving checkpoint being half an hour ago and corrupting your latest savegame in the process.

And now, all of you tell me that nothing of this ever happened to you! Be honest!!! Search your memories for the amenisiac parts of bloodraged delirum where you clubbed your pc/console to death because of such a bossfight.

Make the game lag, and knock backs. Fucking knock backs...

Boss fights are supposed to be tense and adrenaline fueled. It's just frustrating when they knock you back, and it takes an agonizing 5 seconds to get back up again, not to mention by then the boss has re-positioned himself to best beat your ass down again.

I hate how when you're so close to beating a boss, out of nowhere it starts to "enter it's true form!" and be nearly impossible to beat.

I'd have to go with a timer(Prototype final boss anyone?). Also, healing themselves as well as never ending waves of minions you have to avoid just to get to the boss.

Regen health seems to be a popular one already, I'd add the annoyance of having insane health to begin with as well as being able to regenerate it. Particularly if it is only vulnerable during certain periods of its choosing.

As a result all your varied attacks and skills are eschewed in favor of mechanically smacking the boss over and over with basic attacks, since the mana/special meter ran out just to bring him down to 98% of his health.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were talking about Fable.

ONE. HIT. KILL.

EDIT:

Any large boss in the God of War series. They do very little to differentiate themselves from the other boss fights. Plus, all sense of epicness is lost when you can defeat him/her/it with just a series of QTEs.
I agree with you on God of War's version of boss fights. On the other hand, Shadow of the Colossus was mainly an art game that did this (sure, you hit specific spots but that's not much better than QTE) and I still felt a sense of epicness with each boss fight. Avion and Phalanx are two of the greatest Colossi and fighting on top of a flying enemy will never lose its appeal to me.

The boss that constantly push you around and is just out to get you. The boss that frustrates you so much that you eventually snap and punch him in the face, and then I get fired.

Spawning Minions, Being invincible, attacks that can't miss, and...
Oh yeah, then there's this thing in Nier where bosses have clocks over their heads occasionally, and if you don't destroy the clock, the boss regenerates least 1/4 of their health, and you have to get to that point again, and the bosses have more health than that picture up there.

Overly long transition phase in which they are invulnerable to damage/heal after transformation.

Glad i wasnt the only one thinking this question was about the boss that signs my paycheck.

ummm

Bosses that only have one point on their body where they can be damaged.. and the game doesnt show where that is.
