Simple question, what would you consider an acceptable form or DRM?

Not true. I've used Offline Mode plenty of times without an internet connection.

Well, at least for me, if I type in my login and hit offline mode, it then says 'this action cannot be completed while steam is in offline mode...' I guess it is just me then.

From my experience, VERY glitchy at times. One time I logged in after about a year, after downloading a seemingly endless amount of updates, it seem to 'misplace' my game licences and I couldn't play anything. Fortunately at this point I only had Half Life 2: GOTY on there so I could just send a picture of my serial key..but still it was damn annoying.
