Every movie needs a good explosion, and you get extra points if the main character walks away from the explosion in slow motion while putting sunglasses on.

My favourite crowning moments of awesome in film...

10) The climax (and subsequent standoff) in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
9) Michael Corleone's purge of the rival crime families at the end of The Godfather.
8) Steve McQueen's motorcycle chase in The Great Escape.
7) Almost every scene in Twelve Angry Men. Really, that movie shows how acting alone can hold a movie.
6) Toshiro Mifune's killing spree in Seven Samurai.
5) The big chase in The Blues Brothers.
4) Fritz Lang's Metropolis deserves a goddamn medal. This is the film that defined twentieth century and even modern twenty first century science fiction. From the clichés it either invented or popularized to its architectural innovations, it's one of the most gorgeous films ever made in science fiction.
3) Gene Kelly's famous Singin' in the Rain dance number in the movie of the same name. This was a man who stuck to his craft, while suffering a burning, delirious fever. He finished the scene in one take. One take.
2) Ben-Hur's famous chariot race scene. Christ, people died during that!
1) George C. Scott's performance as Patton. That is all.

The end of RoboCop when he shoots the guy in the board meeting.

Die Hard. All of it.

The Man with the Golden Gun when James Bond jumps his car over the river. Even with the slide whistle it's still amazing.

The best 5 seconds in cinema history is from Temple of Doom. When Indy gets into the mine and they show the guy sliding across the floor after being hit, and then they slowly pan up to Indy and the light is shining majestically behind him... that's the best.
Hell yeah.

SPOILER WARNING

1) Many things about Olb Boy, even if you didn't like it, you cannot deny that the cinematography was just freakin' awesome.

- The protagonist walking down the street with an awkward smile on his face - right that moment the guy he had been talking to earlier commits suicide by jumping of a building and crashing in a car. He's just walking, just smiling, not giving a fuck.

- The hallway sequence, one long shot of a man and his hammer versus an entire army of Yakuza in a long but dense corridor. It's like 300 avant la lettre.

2) Fight Club, many nice scenes, many great quotes, but it's the ending that really stuck in my head.

- Just the part where the camera zooms out, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter standing next to each other, the buildings crumbling in the distance and 'Where Is My Mind?" by The Pixies playing in the background. Pure bliss.

3) Apocalypse Now, great psychedelic war movie, with many awesome scenes.

- But the most defining in my opinion is the meeting with Lt. Kol Bill Kilgore, just everything he says and does.

4) The Matrix, simple as that.

- Trinity's first crane kick.

- "Free your mind"

- The lobby shootout.

- "Dodge this"
