I know just about no one has read these books, and I am aware he is not a video game character, but that was not specified.
I would say that Nathaniel's death in The Bartimaeus Trilogy was just about the coolest death of any character I have felt really strongly for.
aw shit, I love the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Deffinately an awsome death.

'Choke on 'em!'

That's all I need to say.
This. Day of the dead had some of the best death scenes and special effects I've ever seen. The fact that the aforementioned quote was ad-libbed makes it even cooler!

The Boss. MGS 3. While it wasn't badass per se it was the only video game death that ever stuck with me, even years later
Got to be that. For all the complaints about convoluted storylines and such, Metal Gear games have always felt more emotional and deeper than other games, to me at least.

Not really sure if this counts, but one of my kings in Medieval: Total War II. I was playing as Denmark, and The Holy Roman Empire had basically dicked most of Europe, except for us. I was moving my King down to Hamburg alone with his bodyguard unit, and it's a two turn trip. So the Holy Roman Empire's massive army attacks, led by their emperor. Thanks to lots of my attacks and assassinations, he's their last male character over sixteen, so if we kill him the Empire is destroyed. And by lots of awesome, I managed to kill him with about 4 men left including my King, and then they were all massacred. It was awesome. Us and our allies took over the rebel regions and we all lived happily ever after (except France. We all ganged up on France).

Oh, and in the film of Sin City, Hartigan and Marv's deaths were incredibly badass. Hartigan in a selfless, heroic way and Marv's in an awesome tank way.

Dissapoint.

His final battle and subsequent death was amazing, but also just everything in the film that lead to it.

Jesus: He want out pretty badass. Nailed to a cross and all that. And after all, he is the most known character in the world.

My level 12 Dwarf Fighter from AD&D 2nd edition

An arbolist bolt impaled him onto a sinking ship.

Talk about overkill.
Personally I was hoping for more original deaths like this one. Instead of rehashing scripted deaths from mangas / games etc.
Shadowrun, 2nd ed., my Mage i'd been playing with for about a year dies by casting a Hellblast with all the dice he could get which was around 30 or 40, plus adding in all 30 of his Karma, on a group of about 30 Insect Spirits during the Universal Brotherhood run, and those of you that ran it know how bad it can get, he takes out all but one Spirit who is killed by a Troll with a Predator, and is abrubtly killed about three times over by the backlash of the spell.
I'd have to say that's pretty original

John Marston died in a pretty bad-ass way.

I mean, Rockstar did a great job leading you on to believe you could kill all the people with dead-eye, only to be shot down in the end--a futile effort.
Not to shoot you down entirely because his death was truly awesome, but
there was no way anybody could think they could have shot all those dudes. You have a 6-shooter and there's like 20 of them.

Yet somehow for me, knowing it was hopeless made the ending better. I knew there was no way out of it alive but going down fighting was truly awesome as an ending.

That unnamed Space Marine at the end of the intro cinematic of the first Dawn of War. There are a few more along in that vein that I can't quite remember.

Boromir from Lord of the Rings. How many arrows did he take before he went down?
Yeah, I came here to say Boromir.

I still get teary when I read this part of LotR. Also, when Faromir talks about his brother's death later and how he wishes he had died... and then how he almost dies in a fire. Gosh. So many good deaths among Tolkien's men.

Anderson. Stabbing himself with the nail and becoming a monster of God, trying to rid himself of his humanity, beating the crap out of Alucard, losing the nail and dying as a human.

Spike, from Cow Boy BeeBop. His death was not only bad ass, but awesome enough to cause some manly men I know to well up a little. It also caused me to reconsider my stance on killing the lead in a series.
Have to go with this one as well, a fantastic ending, done perfectly

My choice was in the OP. A textbook badass death. Though Micky Rourke at the end of the movie Double Team

He stepped on a mine in the middle of a colloseum while being pounced on by a tiger.

I was playing "Dead Island" yesterday with my South African buddy. We were in the town and, just like in every other game where I can do this, I tend to close the door behind me, otherwise it bothers me to no end. At one point I closed myself in the door. And died. Dunno how but it happened. Somehow.

Not really bad-ass like but it's me so... ugh, I should test games for a living.
