I love Star Wars, a lot, but I also love fantasy book as well so a few years ago I picked up a certain fantasy book that people had been saying was super duper good and was the best thing ever (this was back in middle school I think). This book as Eragon. So I read it, and I somewhat enjoyed it although I couldn't shake the feeling that I had already read this story before, that's when I realized that I had, it was Star Wars... with dragons.

It had everything, princess is attacked by bad guy, send away something for old wise master to retrieve, fresh faced farmboy finds it, finds old wise master, gets his family killed as a result, runs away to train with old master, finds rougeish man who helps them...

I could go on and on but I'd rather know your thoughts on the matter of not just how crappy the Inheritance books are but also what other things have you seen or read that was an obvious rip off of another, better book/movie/anything else you can think of.

Its entire dragon/rider relationship is shamelessly ripped from The Dragonriders of Pern series.

Medal of Honor 2010 is a shamefully ripoffs Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. No seriously it is pretty much modern Warfare 2 in Iraq.

Avatar, I guess. One example is that they took the Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas among other things.

True Crime was one helluva GTA rip-off. That is, until it suddenly became involved with all kinds of supernatural mumbojumbo. It was still pretty entertaining though.

Not read the books, but managed to watch the entire Eragon movie.

It's fascinating, though, it means the story must be so unimportant. Star Wars is a classical, Eragon is appalling rubbish, but they are exactly the same...scene for scene often.

It's as boring as "Activity"
Ninja Blade is a blatant rip off of Ninja Gaiden.
Can't think of anything else at this point.

You managed to watch the whole movie 0_0 I'm impressed, not even Robert Carlyle could save that piece of crap, it was even worse than the book.

Saw one just the other day. I was watching the rifftrax of Battlefield Earth, and there's a scene where Barry Pepper's character runs through these sheets of glass and collapses in snow. I was like, "WTF?! You straight up stole that from Blade Runner!"

Scene comparison (Note that the guy making fun of the scene was the only footage of the glass breaking in Battlefield Earth I could find):

I had to pause to recover quite a few times.

Oddly, I didn't notice it was a rip off of Star Wars at first, I was distracted by how awful it was.

Made something like $120M profit, too.

Ninja'ed by the OP. Eragon is easily the most blatant ripoff I've ever seen, not just of Star Wars but of Return of the King as well. Anyone compared Minas Tirith as depicted in the movie to the Varden headquarters, also as depicted in Eragon?
I sat through the whole film, and when I wasn't busy giggling myself silly at it I tried to make a game of counting the most obvious copies. I think I quit after I got to about 20 though.
I was actually going to post pictures of the two different locales but for the life of me I can't find one of the Varden Stronghold. Oh well. Anyone who's seen the movie knows what I'm talking about.

Juiced is a rip off of Need For Speed Underground 1. Now to clarify, i'm only talking about the first juiced game.

Well I may as well grab the obvious one before someone else does matrix and GITS

But I don't care they are both awesome movies and have their own originality. Neither did either of their directors as GITS then gave a shout out to the matrix in one of their future shows.

I don't think the problem is how much you copy but how many original things you add to it and how good a job you did that determine weather it's a crappy ripoff or not.
