Ever look at W40K Space Marines beside... well... space marines?

Really? Blizzard, come on.
To be fair, Starcraft made Protoss first, I think WH40K stole that one back as Tau to make a point (and have an excuse for RAILGUN TANKS!)
EDIT:
OHRIGHT!
Wowwee made this toy about 5 or 6 years ago:

This is something made a little afterwards:

I don't know how they got away with it. It isn't just stealing an idea, half the parts ARE THE EXACT SAME MOLD. You can see how they recycled the shape for everything except the torso!

Starcraft = Warhammer
Yep, Zerg = Tyranids
Yes, but let's not forget where GW got the Tyranids in the first place. I dare say that Blizzard didn't rip off 40k so much as they just ripped off the same source 40k did.

I said right from the beginning that Starcraft was nothing more than AvP: the RTS.
W40K may have gotten a few visual queues from Alien (The head, and... the head), but Starcraft ripped off virtually entire body models, and a similiar 'purpose.'

W40K: Tyranids are an unstoppable hive mind beast that roam the universe in search of biomass, displaying the ability to absorb and modify DNA.

Starcraft: The Zerg are an unstoppable hive mind roamming the galaxy in search of DNA and biomass, in the hopes of creating a more perfect species.

Seriously, go to Wikipedia and read the entries they have on both species. Virtually the only difference is the Tyranid's more acute goal.

The Tau are a race of blue aliens who have no psychic abilities and are unaffected by the warp.

The protoss are a race defined by psychic ability. They are blue.

So, not really.

Just to be clear here, I am NOT saying W40K did not rip off others, only that Starcraft practically lifted an entire race from W40K, as well as armor design of the marines.

Though, technically, everything is a rip off of something. There's only so many ideas and we've used up all of them.

For instance I was watching this movie and my friend said this one character is such a batman rip off. Now, I was really enjoying this movie. So this pissed me off.

So I responded. "And Batman is a rip off of Dirty Harry and Dirty Harry was a rip off of every character John Wayne played who were all rip offs of every bad ass on the side of the angels before them. What's your point!?"

What was actually 1st? Cause Starcraft was released in 1998 dunno about 40k though.
1987.

And to point out the tyranid/zerg comparison with pictures...

The Tyranids look a lot like the xenomorphs...which were first created in 1979. Huh.

Well I may as well grab the obvious one before someone else does matrix and GITS

But I don't care they are both awesome movies and have their own originality. Neither did either of their directors as GITS then gave a shout out to the matrix in one of their future shows.

I don't think the problem is how much you copy but how many original things you add to it and how good a job you did that determine weather it's a crappy ripoff or not.
I actually never noticed, although I love both franchises. I am confused. What one will learn from the nets.

Batman as been around since the 1930's and he was influenced by Zorro. Dirty Harry as nothing to do with Batman in any way, shape or form. Not even the modern Batman as anything to do with Dirty Harry.

I adore what I am going to say and I am no reason ripping on it but..

Dead Space and Alien(s).

It's basically a complete ripoff, including the. "THERE COMING OUT OF THE VENTS!!!!!" (which I'm sure was a homeage...)

DUNGEONS and M.U.D. TV.

Made by Realmforge Studios. A studio whose only two titles are blatant ripoffs of older games, but which have a different gameplay compared to the norm.
(Dungeon Keeper and MAD TV, respectively).

So, pretty much the Gameloft of Steam.

In my eyes they were mostly ripped from the alien franchise with a bit of tyranid thrown in. They look similar, evolve in the same way (stealing genetic information), the cocoons look the same, they all grow from a single organism (chest burster / larvae), some zerg types have acid blood, and the human military R&D departments are scrambling to research them for war purposes in both. Plus, there are many quotes from aliens in SC such as "how do I get out of this chickenshit outfit", "In the pipe, five by five" and infested terrans saying "killlll meeeee".

Dead Space was intentionally based on the 'mood' of Aliens. EA admitted to that before the first game came out.

When your that blunt about it, I'd call it 'inspired by,' not ripped off.

Actually... No, the modern Batman is arguably a rip off of Rorschach from the Watchmen. Its arguable as TDKR and Watchmen came out around the same year and Watchmen accidentally kicked off the whole darker and edgier hero wave of the late 80's to 90's where Batman also became more darker and edgier. Its sort of ironic though given that Rorschach was a Batman expy (along with another character from the D.C universe Alan Moore wasn't aloud to kill off).

Again, its arguable. He's certainly not a rip off of all bad ass law enforcers. I could point to a good few comic heroes that are, just not Batman.

closer but still only passing similarities, now lets see the 3rd edition

much closer but still not bad. When was this codex released? 2001? Yeah... what about the fourth edition released in 2005?

Yeah... your argument is starting to fall apart a bit...

For the OP: anything by Asylum films

I always thought Dead Space was an homage to Event Horizon. It is to similar to be called a ripoff; nobody is that blatant.

So, I was reading a short story called "Call Me Joe" for my Science Fiction Literature class. It was about a paraplegic guy who used a machine to telepathically control/live through a giant blue alien on Jupiter, an- Wait a minute...
http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=15564

For reals, how did he (Cameron, "Call Me Joe" was written over fifty years ago) think no one would would notice that this:

was pretty much the same story as Avatar?

I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong.

And I'M NOT! Mwahahahaha (Okay, yah).

Though I'd still argue that the their story concepts are still remarkably similar.

Well, I would continue to argue it. Except for the sudden release of random tyranid/zerg porn google just dumped on me.

...I don't want to talk about either right now...

...

The similarities are there, and perhaps the scenario was lifted from that movie.

But, as stated, the intention was to create the atmosphere of Alien. Any similarities to Event horizon may have been intentional or not. it is beyond my knowledge.
