That new Kid Rock song and Sweet Home Alabama
I can't believe they are getting away with it too
Sweet Home Alabama kinda ripped off of another song, like "werewolves in London" or something.

I feel like saying Daft Punk but they don't count because they sampled the music (which is like half the songs they made).

uhm, im pretty sure that when you use a line from a song to create a beat for a rap or pop song its called "sampling" not "tune stealing", and is fully supported by copyright law

The Flo Rida Go Down song. The worst part is, most people don't even know that it was an 80's song in the first place. If that's not a sign that society hasn't reached a new low, nothing is.
Oh really?

I remember seeing a comparison of two videos, showing they had the exact same tune.

The funny part? One was a rap video about slapping women, or something, and the other was the Thomas the Tank Engine themesong.

I wish I could remember/find it.
I think that is a low beyond all expectations.

I agree that Flo Rida is very un-original, I remember on a music show the host said they want to kill him, but was afraid that doing so would make flo rida return every three years to release an album.

Really? Don't suppose you have a link to this other song? If so they are copying a copied song, how bad is that

Oh man...I'm now old enough to have heard 3 decades of music (been around for 4) and I can tell you they keep writing the same songs over and over and over. They just change the lyrics to fit the current days slang.

And all of them are stealing the chord changes from Bach. Ahh well.

Such is the way of pop music in its various forms.
Oh? Pulling our a famous musician eh?

Time for me to pull out the big guns.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/0304/01.html

Old Pianists were influenced by Bird Calls, of Particular Mention would be Beethoven's 5th being him just stealing the tune from a Woodren.

Since before any of you (or even I) was alive artists have been copying one another.

The ENTIRE Renaissance was painters copying one another to test out new theories, styles, and in some cases just to do something new. This has carried into literature, dance, music, and every other form of entertainment or interaction.

The difference is that in the past this was seen as a compliment, now people just ***** and moan about it all the time.

More than likely most popular song you've ever heard was influenced by something other than the person who wrote it. Go far back enough and it was people being influenced by animal calls.

There's this animated "band" on the Christian kids' network (I watch a lot of bad Christian TV for the, uh, hilarious trainwreck appeal.. I know, I'm a bad person.. not dissing the religion, mind you, just some of its programming.) ..Anyway, they're called the "Beatrocks", and all they do is rip off Beatles songs and replace the lyrics with (parts of) psalms. There's also the "Beach Rocks" (I think that's what they're called?), who rip off the Beach Boys in the same manner, and then they've got "Godrocks", which is a Real Live Band. Godrocks doesn't rip off specific songs so much, they just have one of everything "in the style of" all the popular teenybopper secular stuff.

I guess since they're blatantly advertising their derivative-ness (derivativity? uh..), it's not precisely what the thread was going for, but it's hee-larious nonetheless, and I think it's pretty close.

As far as "real" music, Under Pressure comes to mind instantly. And there's this song (actually a really *good* song) by Tubring called "Killers In Love", which starts off almost exactly like the dungeon music from the first Legend of Zelda. It might be an intentional homage, tho - that's what I'm gonna believe, cuz it's an awrsome song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyCERZBxv5Y <--- Social Distortion's "I Was Wrong"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AteMEAO3gJw&feature=related <--- Papa Roaches "Looking for a Lifeline"

Maybe it's just me, but the beat and the lyrics sound a little similar.

Horseshoes and Handgrenades by Green Day and Main Offender by The Hives sound kind of similar. I'm a Green Day fan and I think that.

I always thought the beginning of Dani California by RHCP:

Sounded an awful lot like the beginning of Country House by Blur:

Maybe it's just me though.

No, I actually think Vanilla Ice said that it was different because Under Pressure goes "bah dah dah dah dah dah duh. Bad dah dah dah dah dah duh." and his song goes "bah dah dah dah dah dah duh, ba bah dah dah dah dah dah duh."

Yeah...
Vanilla Ice added ONE note.
Just to avoid being sued off his rocker.

But it's dirty and vile all the same.

No, it's that Kid Rock copied both songs.
