...Okay I get it but that makes me wonder even further how the fuck he got away with it, I assume he begged the band who wrote Sweet Home to have that bit?
The thing is, Kid Rock didn't do anything illegal. He paid the band (or whoever owns the rights to the song, which might not be the band) and he gives them a percentage of the royalties. Its as simple as that, no need to hope no one notices because its all clean.

white and nerdy with something and dirty. i cant remember the first word in the second songs name though.
I really hope you know the song's a parody...
idont really focus on rap bands alot.
(The song's official name is Ridin' by the way)
Weird Al's famous for being a parody artist, a-DUUUUUUUUUH. The majority of things he does are parodies. Not keeping up with rap groups really isn't an excuse for not realizing that it was a parody after hearing both songs and then noticing that one is by Weird Al. Sorry, I just really like Weird Al.

The coldpaygarism thing with Satriani is the most recent one I can think of, but there are so many that it's hardly worth mentioning. Most songs at least have bits of the generic 4 chord thing.

Also - Its not "Stealing" (as in, iligal) unless the melody or lyrics and copied. You can't copyright a chord progression, technique, style, feel or arrangement (its very hard to at least).

I am loving my copyright class right now =D

It took this long for the obligatory Pachelbel rant to be posted? Well, here goes

a[/youtube]

I believe it was Igor Stravinsky who was reported to have said, "Good composers borrow, great composers steal."
Now that that's out of the way, here's another entry:

Man thats really pathetic that he can't think of his own song, it's not that hard and it would save him so much money

Guys... Stop holding up rap songs and saying "ZOMG steeld it!!". "Sampling" has been a part of rap from the very start, rap originated from Jamacians "toasting", were people would take the instrumental sections of records, loop them and perform improvised lyrics over the top. Cheaper than buying instruments, and can give as many songs as you want. Samples are as much a part of rap as guitar solos are of rock/metal.

that is purposeful, weird al takes songs and changes the lyrics to something funny, or takes the songs and changes them to a polka theme, also the song you're thinking of is riding dirty

The Four Horsemen by Metallica (1983) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4nCy5CITc8

Mechanix by Megadeth (1985) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0esBAj3ZoaY

Preferred if they just made a cover because I prefer The Four Horsemen.
Dave Mustain wrote that song before he was kicked out. Technically, the song still belonged to Metallica so they went ahead and recorded it even after Mustain was gone. So it's more of a copyright struggle, really.

Daft Punk and Kanye West were working together so much with the song Stronger that Daft Punk's first live television apperance was with Kanye at the Grammy awards in 2008.

That new Kid Rock song and Sweet Home Alabama
I can't believe they are getting away with it too
He didn't just rip off Sweet Home Alabama in that song, the introduction and main theme is almost completely identical to 'Werewolves of London'

Not until Rap stops butchering songs

Note: I like techno for that reason (partly)

Do people really not get sampling? Good lord...

I mean, if we're doing that...
Marvin Gaye [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hajBdDM2qdg]
Creedence Clearwater Revival [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZe9OtFNt_8]
