Leonard Cohen actually released the original in 1984, his version was on the Watchmen soundtrack.

EDIT: I agree with Hurt - NIN, add Sober by Tool and Fade to Black by Metallica (also a suicide song I believe).

Actually, Jeff Buckley is one of the many people who's covered the song. The original composer of "Hallelujah" is Leonard Cohen. Just thought you oughta know

listened to Leonard's version, its pretty good too, but I like Jeff Buckley's. you can hear raw pain in is voice when he is singing. are there any other good versions of this song?
