I've played some weird shit in my time, but whoever wrote the endings for Drakengard must have been dumped that week or something. At the time I got it I thought, hmmmmm, Square game and discounted, why not?

*SPOILER ALERT*

The game itself isn't that bad, but my goodness the endings are depressing. Either everybody the hero cares about dies, xcept in the "best" ending, where reality breaks down, everybody gets eaten by weird, big alien babies (so they still all die). You then get sucked into our "real world" have the most bizzarre final boss fight in history, you save the world and then promptly get killed because - wait for it - a fighter jet mistakes you for an enemy jet and splatters you all over a Tokio skyscraper....

* END SPOILER*

Can anyone think of anything to top that?

The one that comes to me off the top of my head is the end of Assassin's Creed 2, where

Minerva is talking to Ezio, but she's staring at the camera the entire time, breaking the fourth wall. Then she says 'Desmond', meaning that she's talking to you from five hundred years in the past. Desmond's response was pretty much mine: "What the fuck?"

Arc the Lad 2

Arc and Kukuru die, painfully most likely. The bad guys only sealed away. The world still suffered massive damage were countless lives are lost the earth is physically scarred and it will take years to even start recovering from all of this. And the whole game is filled with fucked up shit that makes this seem tame.

Thank god for Arc 3 and it's wackiness. Fucking love that poor romantic ninja bastard,

Hmm, either the end of Xenosaga III, where
you destroy the whole universe and everyone in it.

Or the "In Water" ending of Silent Hill 2

I found Silent Hill 2 strange in that after the big reveal I WANTED James to get what he had coming to him. But honestly Ive never liked games were you play as a...well let's say morally lacking person. It's not that I don't like flawed characters and ambiguity but I have a very clear cut off line were if you cross it I stop feeling bad for you.

Oh don't remind me of Earthbound! That bastard was just a huge mindfuck

Mine is The Ending for Shadow of the Colossus!

In the end after busting your ass to kill 16 giant beasts and corrupting your body to make a pact with some evil spirt in hopes to bring your girlfriend back, your village elders come in and screw it up and at the end of it all you get sucked into a vortex, become a baby with horns AND THEN YOUR GIRLFRIEND WAKES UP TO FIND YOU LIKE THAT!!!!!!

Honestly this was my reaction the moment the credits started rolling.

The true ending to MGS3.

Okay okay OT: The ending of Condemned was pretty messed up... then they explained the ending a bit in that... then the ending of the 2nd one was confusing too XD.

God every ending of any kingdom hearts game makes me sad :(

Mainly because you start to understand what is going on but only in pieces and the uncertainty of what's going to happen makes it all that much sadder

Well what did you think was going to happen with Delta. He's an inhuman abomination who just now regained humanity. When does that ever work come up all roses

Heard of Gygas, I only have a bootleg copy of Earthbound & never got that far :-/

The fight in Drakengard is basically a big, evil, statue of liberty look-a-like that emits black or white deadly sound waves as you circle it. You fight back by emitting exactly the right colour combination sound waves in response... it makes no sense whatso-ever in the context of the game, not even in a zany poking-fun kind of way.

Agree on Shadow of the Colossus being weird, but it's still slightly positive (at least you save the girl and your horse is still alive!)

I don't know why I always forget this first, maybe it's becaue I tend to look at my shelf for ideas and I don't have this one there at the moment but

Planescape Torment

You defeat The Transcendent One, make peace with your past mistakes. Become a truly good and noble person, find love in a perpetually angry Irish demon girl and solve the mystery of your immortality and identity. And then you go to hell to fight in a never ending war against demons were you will nothing but fighting and carnage

and that's the GOOD ending.
