Most difficult game boss?

We've all had that time in a game where you get faced against a boss which is bloody difficult to beat. Sometimes its because of the strategy used to defeat them, other times its because the boss is at the end of a very long dungeon, and one of your team mates has used all of the healing potions. It differs from game to game, but each are challenging in their own way. My question, however, is which game boss is the most difficult to defeat?

Lets just lay down a few ground rules before you get posting.

First of all, the boss has to be challenging to defeat because of how you must go about defeating it. NOT because "It's hard to beat on the highest difficulty level".

E.G: The final boss of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is the Queen of Blades. She keeps assaulting your base with a seemingly infinite amount of Zerg units. Each time she is beaten, she teleports back to her lair, regenerates, and then attacks again. The only way to win is to survive for 25 minutes. Because of this, a large amount of micro-management is required to hold out against the onslaught.

Even on the Casual difficulty mode, she is still a nightmare to defeat and is by all means, a pain in the ass. (And in-case your wondering, i'm close to that level on Brutal difficulty, and im dreading it!)

Back to the point, the Queen of Blades is a challenging boss because of the way in which you fight her, not because of difficulty level.

Second rule: If you're going to mention a secret boss, or one which would spoil a story, make sure to warn which game you're talking about first, and then put the rest of your comment in a spoiler box.

Im going to use the game Jade Empire as an example for this.
One of the bosses in JE is Master Li, who has 3 phases, has annoying stunlocks, and can drain your focus, meaning you can't use special weapons againt him!

(incase you dont know how to make a spoiler box, the code is)
insert whatever you want it to say here[ /spoiler] (without the spaces in the inverted brackets!)

Third rule: Mention WHY the boss was difficult! Saying "In god of war, Ares was a difficult battle" isn't that helpful. Saying "In god of war, Ares was a difficult boss because he has 3 phases. The first is standard combat. The second requires you to fight off many clones of yourself, whilst giving your health to the clones of your family. The third phase makes you lose all of your weapons and abilities, and the only way to win is to steal Ares health bar" is much better, as it clearly states WHY the said boss was annoying. Although my example was a little long winded!

Well, I hope to hear about some good battles, I'm looking for a good challenge, so by all means, post away! :D

The two Predator youngbloods and the elder Predator from the new AVP on Nightmare mode screwed me up something fierce. They can't be assassinated, recover from a heavy stun very fast, use their plasma bolts with extreme accuracy, and if you die once, you start back at the begining of the level, fighting android snipers.

Oh yes. Your going to die... A LOT!
(Cookie for refrence)

Oh yeah, Alien campign by the way.

Gotta agree with this.

Fight took me six hours total.

My average attempt time was 45 minutes. Got him close to death, than we'd lose.

Phase 2 was piss-easy. First try.

Neverwinter Nights 2, Mask of the Betrayer, The faceless man
Level 35 (When 30 is the highest you can get to). ?Honestly it's his six attacks a round with a wicked-looking negative-energy-dealing scythe that's the bigger worry. He's also immune to most status effects and is permanently Hasted? He can also Devour Spirits. We now have two health bars to watch, because if we reach zero in either HP or Spirit Energy then we're toast? The fight is more or less a straight-up beat down. There's no gimmicks: no levers, no statues, no rituals, no portals. However, Akachi has 700 HP... and every time he reaches Near Death, he heals up and spawns a little Akachi to help him. These Akachi clones are a lot weaker than the real thing, with 'only' 360 HP and all 18s in their stats instead of all 30s, but they're still a menace. And if you're not careful, you can end up surrounded by the things - a very painful experience.

There are four Akachi clones to fight through before the Faceless Man can be defeated: Remorseless Instinct (chance to Confuse on hit), Infinite Despair (Doom on hit), Unrelenting Fury (Hasted) and Insatiable Hunger (Vampiric Regeneration +5). After they're dead, it's only a matter of finishing off Akachi.?

TL;DR: The spirit of pure emptiness doesn?t go down without a fight

My friend had to fight the last boss without heath potions

How the hell he did it I don't know

Game: Ratchet and clank 2
The Thugs 4 less giant robot boss was annoying
he takes no damage from all but one of your weapons to your weapons (only the ryno 2 does enough noticeable damage about 1/6 health)
And you have to jump from turret to turret for 10 mins to kill him
It must of took me 20-25 trys to defeat him

You're really asking for this, aren't you? Alright then...BEHOLD!!!

THE HARDEST BOSS EVER!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQZuidKexBQ

This video should say it all, but I'll tell why this boss is the hardest anyway, for the sake of the forum.
Putting it simply, it's not really like you're fighting a boss; it's more like you're fighting a @#$%ing rainstorm! You are guaranteed to die here. A lot! It takes an inhuman amount of patience, luck, and skill just to dodge the first wave of attacks! And once you finally defeat that boss, WHAM! There's a second form, and defeating it is no easier! Really, good luck with that!

Oh, and the name of the game in question...it's Mushihime-sama Futari. Happy trails! *insert evil laughter here*

In terms of raw gaming skill then I'd say the final stages of Ninja Gaiden 2 when it becomes a massive boss rush from hell (literally)

In terms of grinding probably:

God of war 2 on titan: Theseus
He is a cheating bastard and wayyy harder than Zeus
My friend says that happens a lot in Games like GOW bc in the beginning the increase in difficulty relative to your powerups and health are completely unbalanced (friend is a game dev, also he suffered through the experience with me as we were roommates at the time. Took us like 3 days of on and off playing)

I actually thought that the True End boss was pretty easy.

OT: My pick is from Digital Devil Saga.

I probably was just lucky, but I thought Orphan was a bit anticlimactic after all the deathspamming stuff you have to get through to get to Orphan's Cradle. One go and it was gone. Now some of the optional bosses, those are a completely different story. (Curse you, Vercingetorix, curse you!)

Also:
- attack on Arteria Cranium (Armored Core: For Answer, basically comes down to fighting 5 (hard) bosses at the same time)
- killing White Glint on hard (Armored Core: For Answer, way too fast. I tend to run out of ammo).
- Jardin de Chevalier (Armored Core 4, probably because I suck at using blades)
- Bohan (Heavenly Sword, never finished him because I got so annoyed by his spamming)
- Flamelurker (Demon's Souls, IMO the most annoying boss in the game, probably because my character build was just plain crap. Damn him getting ever stronger!)

Probably the Sephiroth fight from Kingdom Hearts 1.

God damn, that's probably the BALLS HARDEST boss fight I had every undertaken.

If you've never had the "pleasure" of fighting him, let me break it down:

He has more health than any other enemy in the entire game. He has SO much health, in fact, that when you first start fighting him, his health bar doesn't even deplete. He actually has more health than the health system is designed to handle, so you have to beat 1 or 2 health bars out of him before he will even REGISTER damage.

His sword is frikin HUGE (seven feet long), and he can hit you from pretty much halfway across the screen... and that's BEFORE he starts randomly teleporting directly behind you to give you a steel suppository.

And, of course, there's the fact that he has his "Sin Heartless Angel" attack, which will Auto-Kill you if you don't interrupt it. And he likes to teleport to a random location on the battlefield right before he does it, breaking your target lock.

He's a tough freaking bastard. I was on the edge of my seat when I started trying to beat him for real (the first time I fought him, I was so shocked he was the secret boss that he killed me in 3 seconds, before I could react). Sweat, shaking, the whole nine yards. Now THAT'S intense.

Fucking hell.

mines from a lil none game "gungrave" (great show and game), and the boss that i couldn't get passed wasn't even at the end of the game. anyway, the boss is bob poundmax(overkill version). after you whoop his ass on the rooftops - Batman style!- he jumps off the building, then you see him again when he's fuckin quadrillion'd in size and he's virtually impossible to beat. if i could only find the game i'd try again.

Most recently I'd say The Fallen from The Last Remnant.
[warning, game-specific jargon incoming]

You have only 10 rounds to beat him in, after that he casts Apocalypse which just kills all your people.
You get given an extra character for the battle who becomes a 'Union' unto himself and just gets in the fucking way (also, he is mostly useless).
The Fallen can attack 3 Unions at once, meaning flank attacking him is tricky and people are going to get hurt a lot. Also, his most basic attacks hurt like all hell.
At the end of each round, he gets to use one of the special Magicka attacks, which hurt every Union on the field for massive damage.
He also has a ton of hitpoints.
It took many goes for me to beat him, and the time I did was still mostly down to luck and actually came down to my last character left alive in my last Union, out of 18+1 characters and 3+1 Unions.

Finally, there's a harder version of this character called The Lost, who has twice the HP and will cast Apocalpyse after only 5 turns. I would never even fucking bother.

Luckily, both characters are optional, although defeating The Fallen does open up one of the best areas of the game where much high-level loot is found.

I think the most difficult for me subjectively was Gruntilda from Banjo Kazooie. She'd probably be pretty easy now, but when I was a kid, Jesus Christ was she hard.

Come to think of it, she was pretty damn hard in the second one as well.
