Elfen Lied: revolves around a female who alternates between being a total bad-ass and a mentally disabled person; epic actions sequences juxtaposed against daily life scenarios concerning Mr. and Mrs. Blandy McBlanderson (haven't I seen them somewhere else before?).

Nevertheless, I plan to watch all of the episodes (there's only 14, to my knowledge), if only for the aforementioned action.

Clannad. It's beautifully drawn and I'd heard so many good things about it I really wanted to like it, but... it's boring. Nothing happens. I got about eight episodes in before I just gave up because even staring at the floor was starting to feel more exciting.

I'll give it another try sometime, though, just in case I've been missing something fundamental with it.

For me it was Code Geass.

I wanted it to be based purely on the wars between the gigantic superpowers, and the social dynamics of the Britannian Empire.
What? Did you even watch Code Geass? That is literally exactly what it's about.

My biggest disappointment is probably Gantz. Everyone was banging on about it, saying it had awesome fight scenes and an incredible plot.

The action scenes were god awful, the fan service was ridiculous and I just found everyone to be unlikeable and annoying. The story was poorly done in the anime as well. I've heard people say the manga is infinitely better, but as an anime, it was really disappointing.
Yeah I'm gonna go with this guy.
Manga, superb. Especially the scene where the "black guy" strolls down the streets of Tokyo shooting everybody in sight. Gritty and not afraid to kill of characters left and right.
Anime, worst fight scene pacing I have ever seen. Worse, even, than DBZ. Characters would stand in place for minutes at a time looking down the maw of some giant alien. "Pausing for effect" would take up half the episode. Most frustrating anime I've ever watched.

I thought Full Metal Panic was awesome, why ruin it with forced romance?

For me, it's probably Claymore, now don't get me wrong, I still like it, but the series really lost steam about halfway through and began to drag on quite badly.
I wholeheartedly agree with that, up to episode 8, the show was insanely good, then it just sorta stagnated.

My vote goes for Hellsing, I just found it extremely boring. There weren't enough opportunities for Hellsing to be cool, I really didn't care less about the organisation...
The TV series or the OVA's? I agree about the TV series, but the OVA releases have been all kinds of gorey awesomeness.
The TV series, never watched any of the OVA's. Guess I should check them out.

One Piece, heard SO much good stuff about it but found it boring
how far did you get? (just wanna know)
i gave up after episode 7. someone mentioned a few weeks ago that it gets good after episode 150. would give it another go and start it again but there are SO many episodes i don't want to start something that big. of there were 200 and that's it then i'd do it but it's about double that and still going so no

Yu-Gi-Oh!

It barely makes any sense. No matter how you look at it. However it did spawn the best Abridged series so all is forgiven.

It has got to be The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Season 2). A good portion of the series was actually fun to watch and added a lot to the plot, but the entire series was tarnished by Kyoto Animations freak experiment. I mean seriously... Endless 8 (¬_¬). They could have easily cut out 5 episodes from that and replaced it with their adventures in the snow lodge, which I consider being the 3rd best volume of the novels.
Best way to watch Season 2 would be giving it the Season 1 treatment... Start off with Endless 8 part 1, than Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, than Endless Part 2, than Sighs Part 1, Ect...

Anyway... for me, most disappointing anime... Read or Die the TV...

The first half of that show was really great... Loved the characters, the story, and paperkinetics is the shit! But then it suddenly got all stupid... What the heck happend!? I could understand if it was based on an unfinished manga or something, but this was an original series! How could they mess up so bad?

Although this anime didn't disappoint me (I expected I probably wouldn't like it, but watched it anyway), it surprised me with something I never expected.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

I never expected this level of homo-eroticism from this anime, and it's not even insinuated, it's as blatant as possible.
Although the manga is even worse.
So to put it simple, you're just highly insecure in your sexuality? Honestly, if THAT's your reason for not liking it, you're really going out of your way to hate on it. Wouldn't be surprised if you just went straight for Phantom Blood or Battle Tendency and called it homo from that either. Damn homophobes, filling up The Escapist. Makes me sick.
Ehhhmmm... It's clear you misunderstand me. I'm in no way insecure about my sexuality or am a homophobe, a couple of friends of mine are gay and I'm perfectly alright with them, also I now live together with my girlfriend.

Now to explain my post, so that you won't get confused again, I did not dislike JoJo due to the homo-eroticism, that simply was unexpected and surprised me, I didn't like it due to the story and the fact that hardly anything in it was explained and was awfully contrived.

Interesting that "High School of the Dead" got mentioned so often. I started watching the anime by chance when only a couple of episodes were out, fetched what was out of the manga till then, too. It's one of the shows were the fanservice is just plain uninteresting and the relevant scenes are just dismissed with a "yeah, yeah, get over with it already" attitude by me (different example: To Aru Majutsu no Index). Besides, giant boobs aren't my thing.
The beginning with the unconventional weapons was fun, when they all stocked up on guns it became less interesting, but there were some nice scenes every now and then and
the scene in the manga where the protagonist with the glasses has to shoot the female police officer before she "turns" had a nice emotional impact.
It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either and I saw some potential. Stopped watching so I could watch more episode at once. Apparently it does not get better and the potential is thrown out of the window.

Well, for an original nominee, Bleach. Started out with a fairly high-developed universe which was thrown out of the window half-way through to make room for "epic" swordfights. For example, only one Hollow was ever sent to hell. Everything after Soul Society was just a waste of my time. Similar to how Naruto became complete garbage after Sasuke took the spotlight or after the timeskip, but I didn't exactly have the same expectations of Naruto. The highest point of the show in my opinion was the climactic end of the Zabuza arc.

I'm asuming that we're talking about the manga here, because the anime is something I have long since forgotten. What exactly is there that Araki hasn't explained? I can't think of a single thing that wasn't properly explained, he handled the ripple just fine in Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. He handled the stands even better in parts 3 through 7. Considering how it's a battle manga, were you honestly expecting anything along the lines of Death Note or Parasyte? It's got a story hell of a lot better than, say, Bleach. But then again most series have a better story than Bleach, but still.
I was actually talking about the anime, the manga does explain things more, but this thread is about the most disappointing anime, so I was just focusing on the anime.

Well the anime is universally acknowledged as horseshit. So I don't really see how you could ever have gone into THAT with expectations.
I usually go into every anime with the expectation that it doesn't live up to it's reputation, that usually saves me from when a hyped anime turns out to be mediocre or worse, but it also means that anime that really are terrible do live up to their reputations.
I already knew that the JoJo anime was horseshit, but I never expected it to be THIS bad. But atleast it was better than SoulTaker [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.255247-JenSeven-Reviews-SoulTaker], which truly was the Kane and Lynch 2 of anime.

I think my most disappointing anime would be Hunter X Hunter. It could of been like Naruto and One Piece in term of being a lengthy anime but due to the Manga suffer the ill fated of hiatus meaning that the anime was abruptly ended (well ok it some people complain some anime show being too long but I think Hunter X Hunter could of go on a bit further).
It is similar to Naruto and One Piece but it wasn't good enough. I was confuse with the setting since it was fantasy but yet modern (Naruto was ninja and a bit modern and One Piece was in the pirate era) and while Naruto had ninja skills and One Piece was about Devil Fruit users I didn't fully under the ability/ skills in the Hunter X Hunter universe.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. I think I have said enough. Not that the concept seemed promising in the first place, but damn even my low expectations got disappointed.
I'll only accept this answer if you at least watched more than episode one. I'll admit it got off to a bad start but it just kept getting better and weirder and by episode 6 I was hooked.
I understand if it's not your cup of tea but I just hope you gave it more than one episode.
I dunno, I think I watched the two first or something, but it was just too bizarre for me...I and I really like bizarre...

Claymore for me, all that build up and nothing. My thoughts at the time were why the fuck did I just waste my time and watch this?
