Most Disappointing Anime

What anime with a promising concept or beginning let you down the most?

For me, it's Full Metal Panic! It's the story of a teenage secret agent (Sousuke) sent to protect a unique high school girl (Kaname) from an evil organization. So he enrolls in her high school and hijinks ensue.

The disappointment here is that while this provide opportunities for slapstick humor (he pulls a gun on her admirers, blows up a love letter he received thinking it was a bomb) and as a teen I thought the girl's character design was hot, it never goes beyond that. His past is revealed: he can't interact normally as a student because he was a child soldier before he became an agent. This was a great opportunity for character development and a touching love story about a girl teaching a scarred child soldier about love, friendship and enjoying his youth. Instead, she just continues to smack him around for his screw-ups, even though she knows why he's dysfunctional.

Worst of all, after three seasons of the anime and a manga series they have yet to kiss, share a tender moment or f-ck! Come on guys, give him a break.

Welcome to the NHK by far. Halfway through it still carried the potential to be a heartwarming and lovable anime with great characters and an interesting plot, but then they made the mistake of just putting the protagonist on a series of contrived coincidences where nothing is changed or learned, and then just sort of ends.

School days, it had potential to be a real good anime by having the characters react realistically but somehow screwed it up.

gonna get flamed for this, but i'd say Elfen Lied. interesting premise, but i wasn't able to watch more than a couple episodes because the violence was so excessive and brutal, it made me sick. and that's coming from a guy whose favorite movies are zombie flicks.

High School of the Dead... It was interesting at first (beside of the fact that is another take on the overused Zombie Genre) but after a while it becomes just shots at huge tits (see the nurse) and girls taking showers... It's not even a good contrast to survival horror... It's just dumb.

I thought Full Metal Panic was awesome, why ruin it with forced romance?

For me, it's probably Claymore, now don't get me wrong, I still like it, but the series really lost steam about halfway through and began to drag on quite badly.

Neon Genisis Evangelion. After hearing the mass of praise I have heard from the fans, I would expect something that I could get past at least episode 5. I didn't.
I have yet to find a character who I hate more the Shinji, whining basterd. I also hear that the ending is terribad, so I'm glad I didn't get that far. Also the fanboys and girls annoy me to death for not liking it.
I have nothing against people liking it, so leave me alone for not.

Library Wars (Toshokan Senso). Love the premise, love how it makes members of my profession out to be badasses, but the series revolves around the two most unlikeable characters. I'm hoping the manga isn't as irritating.

Evangilation the frist half is ok then it just started to suck big time.. the whole things needs an our haul.(while I am at it I liked violinist of hamlin and melody of oblivoin they could use an overhaul badly )

Ah forgot one Valkyrie Chronicles was a bit disappointing...

It dose not help that EL is dumb to boot.

YOur not use to anime are you? :p
I did not have any trouble with Toshokan Senso other than it being so short.

Indeed. It basically just turned into "Fan Service: The Series".

Which is a shame, because at first it was rather enjoyable.

Don't worry, I had the same feeling. About the only character I find interesting or enjoyable is Saeko. Even then, the boob shots are so gratuitous and overdone they've begun to bore me.

Oh hell no, I was the biggest otaku around 10 years ago. But that series helped remind me why I stopped watching anime.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
High School of the Dead
Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple
These three that I listed nearly made me hate anime. I was at that point for a while mind you

Fairy Tail. The manga is awesome, sure, but the anime is just bad.

While the manga is targeted towards teenagers, the anime seems more targeted towards kids, which is a great disappointment since many of the more violent aspects of Fairy Tail are left out. Also, I prefer the fact that in the manga, Natsu is impervious to fire, while in the anime he can merely eat fire.

Maybe this manga just doesn't translate well into anime...

I would have to say Bleach for the current state it is in at the moment. The plot and pacing is now dire and it there too much censorship in it now.
