I've heard that a lot and it makes no sense. The story doesn't really follow Tommy Lee Jones and he does very little that's relevant to the plot. He's just an observer and commentator. By that standard, C3PO is the star of Star Wars.

No Country for Old Men, a movie that followed the main characters' conflict and action only to have the climax happen off screen!
Actually, the true main character of the story was Tommy Lee Jones, and not Josh Brolin. Hence the title of the film.

OT: I think the ending in the book Choke by Chuck Palahniuk was absolutely dumb. Really, aliens!? It took me out of such an awesome story so much. I am just so glad they changed it in the movie. They really made the ending much better.

I hated the very end of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's one of my favorite series of books I've ever read, but the last, I think, 3 pages make me want to just chuck the book across a room. I always thought it was such an idiotic and lame ending to such an awesome series. When I reread it I actually stopped right before it to not repeat the experience.
Have you listened to the final series of the radio version? It makes it all much better.

My only exposure to the whole thing is the novels themselves. I've never looked into anything else because I found that I honestly don't like much of what I've read outside Hitchhiker's that Douglas Adams wrote.

Ichi the Killer. Granted you could see it coming but still.

The man crying was the one in black, Ichi. What the scene doesn't show was Kakihara shooting him in the leg. The entire movie builds up Ichi, showing all of these fantastic acts of hyper-violence he's been perpetrating. Kakihara is the opposite (the masochist to the sadist that is Ichi) Anyway, he shoots Ichi in the leg which reduces Ichi to a bloody heap, crying. Kakihara punctures his ear drums with his needles, fantasizes about the fight that should have been and, hurls himself off of the building. Meanwhile a child beats the hell out of Ichi (Ichi having killed the kid's dad earlier in the movie)

Overall, I really liked Ichi the Killer but the ending was a let-down. Also, for clarity, When I say, 'you could see it coming' I forgot to mention that Ichi always cries during his massacres. A mysterious contractor gives Ichi instructions and money, claiming the people Ichi is about to kill were the kids who bullied Ichi as a child.
::High fives:: I AM so gald that I am not the only that thought it, yeah that ending was a let down. I thought it was an over all good movie. Having said that:

Well, this book wasn't dissapointing but it was rather sad.. The end to The Sight, I know that Larka was going to die, but SHE DID NOT HAVE TOO! Another thing was the Kipcha was pregant with Khaz's pups, even though that is forbidden, still... that was heartbreaking to have the entire pack die witchin like 2 or 3 chapters..

Not at all, the story of Ed Bell tracking down Anton Chigurh all while Bell laments about how the world is evolving into something completely different than he is used to is the main plot. As is made clear by the title. Llewelyn Moss is macguffin of the film. He distracts you from the message of the film. If you don't wish to pay attention to the message, you can just watch the action unfold.

Also, if he wasn't meant as the main character, why was it called No Country for Old Men?

No country for Old Men's ending was really good, you obviously didn't understand the meaning of it. As for rubbish ending of a game, Halo 2.

That whole book felt rushed and JK "Ralphing" up and killed off almost all of the characters i liked and then tacked on a very blah epilogue.

I also would have said Twilight but the whole series was dissapointing to me so didnt quite fit the OT of this thread.

The Dark Tower series
After several books searching for the Dark Tower, the main character is then sent back to the beginning of his journey with no memory of it. I enjoy a Greek tragedy like the next guy but come on!

Quote for freaking truth.

The ending of Morrison's run on Batman just before Batman INC started. All the issues were released out of order so we had
- Bruce back from the dead, enemy defeated and now checking up on his allies
- Bruce suddenly appearing from the dead and defeating his enemy
- Bruce returning to 'life' and going towards his enemy.

That is insanely out of sequence and it's terrible. Especially since the buildup was so insane (4 years of story's worth).

David and Leigh Eddings' The Dreamers. It ended with a god turning back time so that nothing in the series happened, and the worst part was that she could have done it from the beginning making the whole series pointless.

I kinda hoped that Harry would die at the end. That would have had meaning.

"he distracts you from the message of the film..."

honestly, that just sounds like bad film-making.

Having watched it, I hated the ending. I appreciate some originality as much as the next guy, but there is something in this world known as a bad idea. This was one of them
