So I've been playing Haunting Ground lately. Try as I might I don't think I've ever played a game where the core mechanic involves always running away (nope, never played Clock Tower). I'm also surprised at how much I'm enjoying myself, even though I hate being forced to run away. Maybe it's because I'm genuinely creeped out by the stalkers. If it was just a routine thing of having to flee because the game forces me to it'd be just annoying; but being creeped out by the stalkers to the point their theme music induces panic masks the forced natured of this routine nicely.

Right now I'm fixated with Daniella from Haunting Ground. She's my favorite stalker.

Because she's a passive-agressive psychopath who alternatively chases you and tends to her maid chores, fucking up with Fiona without even trying to. Her dubstep theme music is creepy as hell, her laughter freaks me out in contrast to her emotionless behavior, the way she reacts to her own image in front of a mirror is painful and horrifying... and she seems bent on ripping out Fiona's uterus out of sheer jealousy.

Anyway. What are your favorite stalkers/relentless men/women/THINGS that will implacably chase you through a game, or at least large portions of it? I'll make a roster in the OP if I get enough replies :)

Here're our favorite stalkers pictured, or as many of them as I could find. Please keep posting!

I always found Mr. X from Resident Evil 2/Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 to be downright terrifying.

The only reason for their existence is to hunt the player and they absolutely LOVE to punch through walls to chase after you.

"Welp. Here I am minding my own business. Finally found a room with no OH FUCK ME!!!!! RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!!!"

Lord I began to dislike the heroine of hunting grounds... The overall theme was just hard to stomach.

On topic, not sure if it counts, but I believe I've mentioned Silent Hill 3's Stanley Coleman before.

Scissorman from the Clock Tower series, which is actually the series Haunting Ground is a spinoff of. Short creepy guy with large scissors who follows you everywhere and appears at random. 'Nuff said.

The Gman also probably counts.

Also this "guy"

Okay, maybe it's not very disturbing, but it's just too good to leave out of a stalker thread.

Whatever is spying on you in the milkman level of Psychonauts. I got stuck on that part in the middle of the night with nothing but the BGM and the sound of cameras. After a while I really felt like someone was watching me.

If it counts, The Shadow from Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the stalker that has continued to stick out in my mind the most. Granted, I don't play a whole lot of horror games, but it just nailed the idea of stalking you throughout the experience.

Does that rabid fan from Oblivion count as a stalker? Cause seriously, seeing a pointy headed elf outside your window, gazing inside with wide-eyed intensity is as creepy as stalkers get

I don?t know about disturbing but The Nemesis is one of the most terrifying hunters I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a game. Funny thing though. Even though he absolutely terrified me (still does) I actually ended up idolising him...yeah...

Now as for disturbing I would have to say Scissorman from Clock Tower. Mind you I have never ever played that game. But I have seen footage over the last year and...my god, just the design alone gives me the creeps. Mind you I for some reason have a strange fear of short maniacal pursuers.

Honorable mention the...things from Amnesia. Another game I have not had the privilege of playing but that design...*shudders*

Conrad Verner from Mass Effect. Not that disturbing, but his attachment to Shepard is... Curious.

Tremor, from Call of Pripyat. Pretty creepy guy. Also, Uncle Yar. Yes, let's talk loudly about how peaceful it is while strolling through a zombie village!

I was going to say both the traders, but they're annoying, not disturbing. ... no wait, they're disturbing, too. How do they stay up 24 hours a day, constantly?

The most disturbing for me is Scissorman from Clocktower.
Mostly because you are completely defenseless and are always on the run, always scared, always trying to escape. Hi pursuit is relentless and if he catches you you're done. And he shows up and shambles towards you so often, its just ugh.
Still gets me to this day.

My favorite however is Nemesis from Resident Evil 3. As a youngin' he was my first real game stalker and he was an unstoppable force to my extremely and easily movable object. At the time he was the most disturbing but he doesn't hold up much today because you can defeat him at all of his appearances. Hell, I've done it several times with nothing but a knife. After you do that an enemy kind of loses the fear factor.

But his design is awesome and the lore behind him is just cool I think.

Pyramid Head of course. That bastard was scary as hell, especially in the labyrinth.
When I think of running away screaming like a little girl, I think of Pyramid Head. Every time his presence became known, I found myself more and more on the edge of my seat. He really, really sucks! Which is what makes him so very, very awesome.

I left mine at the top of Frostcrag Spire. In the cold. Alone.
I don't feel bad for him.

OT: The Shadow from Amnesia comes to mind. So does the Dahaka from Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within. He wasn't scary (I didn't find any of them all that scary, although there were times where sudden fleshy goop appearing caught me off guard in Amnesia) , but the fleeing sequences were always really adrenaline pumping, in my opinion.
Edit: The regenerators from Dead Space 1 and 2 also stand out. The first time I played through DS1, I got stuck there because I would always panic when I got cornered by him. The second time I kept it cool the entire game and didn't have a problem with him. The one in DS2 is the reason I haven't finished, but that comes from me not having enough supplies to get through all the enemies AND keep him at bay...

The Gray Man from LSD: Dream Simulator.

He pops right the hell out of nowhere, advances slowly but relentlessly at you, and messes your save up if he catches you. This REALLY sucks if you were walking in front of him and didn't know he was behind you.

He's also the source of some of the best reactions in LP history. Hold on, lemme find a link...

EDIT: Found one.

Sweetielise's delayed reactions are what make the video.

An obscure Japanese-only PS1 era game with a cult fan following called LSD Dream Emulator was Creepypasta before it was cool to be Creepypasta. This acid trip of a game is oddly addictive for how little content it has & makes about as much sense as Cho aniki & Katamari Damacy.

There are a handful of freaky NPCs, but the one people remember most is the Grey Man. he follows you around & tries to prevent you from having flashbacks. Sometimes he doesn't follow you, if you step to the side. Sometimes he gives up after the first try, other times he follows you persistently. Sometimes he appears out of nowhere & you can't avoid him. He always vanishes when he gets close enough, & he always takes away your ability to flashback to the dream (but no one ever uses Flashback, so he's completely harmless).

There's also a female Ghost NPC in the Violence District who runs away from you. If you get close enough to her the 3ed time, her head falls off.

Also Watson here pulls the exact same shit as Grey Man.

Another vote for Scissorman.
While he might not be too much to look at (although I love his walking animation), he sure knows how to make an appearance. Not only that, but the fact that he can show up at literally any time is a very big part of what makes the game so tense. Oh, and let's not forget his adrenaline inducing theme song.
It's just a shame that Capcom screwed him up so badly in Clock Tower 3. I don't know what that stupid looking, fruity clown thing was, but it sure as hell wasn't Scissorman.
