Still Life by Opeth:

God damn that's depressing, one of the few bands capable of moving me lyrically as well as with the atmosphere of the music.

The very best of Leonard Cohen. They should ship it with a shaving razor or something...

Don't Worry About Me, the posthumous solo album by Joey Ramone.

There's nothing sadder than a normally upbeat person dying, and raging against the dying of the light.

Just hearing him sing "I want my life/I want my life/It really sucks/It really sucks" :( :( :( :(

Downward spiral by Nine Inch Nails is very sad

The songs follow a guy who is severely depressed and in the end he shoots himself.

The last song on the album.

This whole disturbing business
I agree with this.
I would also like to add that the title of that song means "If the light takes us", which I think is an awesome title.

Dirt by Alice in Chains. All of the songs deal with Heroin addiction, and the title deals with the user wanting to commit suicide.

Have some lyrical dissonance!

Overly peppy song... But the lyrics are depressing! The album is more depressing to me personally for reasons I'd not like to go into right now ^_^

God dammit Ninja'd.

Jar of flies, and Sap were also extremely depressing.

Kaizers Orchestra, a Norwegian rock band so alternative it defies "alternative" as a genre, recorded the album "Evig Pint" while every one of its members were going through some kind of intense emotional hardships. And it shows. I think. I don't speak a word of Norwegian, but just LISTENING to that album brings my mood crashing down to Earth. It isn't exactly depressin, per se, but it's an effective buzz-kill.
