Halo
The first scene in Crysis where you step over the ridge and you can see all the way across the bay to the other side of the island. Epic.

The first days of World of Warcraft, it was so epic, that was back in 06/07.
For all of its faults I cant help but agree with you, I still remember the first time I got on the deeprun tram and went to places like blackrock mountain. Seems strange now but at the time it was truly amazing.

MassEffect is another good one, the combination of visuals and perfectly chosen music made it immense.
It wasn't quite so epic for me with my draw distance on the lowest setting, but I can imagine what it's like.

Someone said it before "Sacrifice". Good story, funny and awesome character, great lines, awesome gameplay. Truly epic spells. You cast tornado, you don't get some swirling wind that picks up some stuff for awhile, no the sky blackens, lightning flashes and a funnel comes crashing down to pick up a large group of anything friendly or enemies and hurls em skyward.

If you can manage to get your hands on it, Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders has epic gameplay. The voice acting is tolerable, and the translations suck. But they are some truly epic moments especially on the dark campaigns.

Game design though I'd have to go old school import Full Seiken Densetsu 3. I might have misspelled that but the story plays out differently depending on who you pick as characters and each character has a tiered system of advancement.

Now as far as story is concerned, in a single game its hard to beat KOTOR or Mass Effect but as a set Legacy of Kain is pretty damn epic.

I agree with the OP in that Kingdom Hearts (the original) was truly epic and really made me feel powerful and influential in an unstable world. I actually felt like it depended on me: that I was the hero. It's a shame they had to take all that greatness and shove it into a satyrically-overloaded, obnoxiously repetitve button-mashing, cutscene overloaded, oftentimes-corny, and simply underdeveloped game that was its sequel.

When my guild in World of Warcraft downed OS3D 25 for the first time back when it ment something (we were server first too :D). Whiping like 30 times then getting it after like 4 hours was a very epic experience. Lots of yelling.

My definition of something epic would be something that I would literally have to do a double take in disbelief that it actually happened/I actually did that.

Half Life 2
Bioshock
ZoE 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Kingdom Hearts 2

I'm gonna say Half Life 2 - I think it hit me when you're ascending the citadel in a little casket and look out over the world from miles above the ground. You've had a vague idea up until this point, but this is when you fully realize "Oh, shit...the Combine are a BIG DEAL."

Zelda, Halo (FLAME SHIELD), or Half Life.
I'd actually agree with you somewhat with Halo. However, for me, that would only include the first game. Apart from some of the more tedious and horribly repetitive levels, the design, pacing, and scale of the rest (along with the better cutscenes) left me with a sense of awe. It made the story and the universe within which it was taking place feel, well, epic. Epic, that is, until Bungie tried to expand the tale for the sequels. It was from the beginning of 2 onto today that they pretty much ruined any semblance of good narrative.

If by epic you mean made by the game company epic, then One of the unreals or GoW. If you mean epic in scope and story, then probably some JRPG that I've never played. If by epic you mean a shark on fire riding in a tank and punching god then I don't know...

in your opinion what is the most epic game, eather just the one or their running series, to you?

For me its Kingdom Hearts, you gotta get past the whole "disney" Gimmic though.
I think the Disney gimmic is part of Kingdom Heart's epicness though! It's a game where an OC-anime tween can pair up with Jack Skelington and Donald Duck to fight an organisation of Disney and Squaresoft/ Square Enix villains!

Fallout 3 is epic in that you are able to destroy a town with a nuke. I would also like to point out that Guitar Hero: Metallica is simply epic due solely to the soundtrack
