It's sad that no-one has mentioned Planescape: Torment yet.

Oh, Planescape: Torment is an utterly fantastic game, but it's not really much of an 'epic' one - while the scope is broad and the story nuanced and masterfully written, in the end it's a very intimate tale about human nature and the flawed individuals caught up in the wake of an immortal. Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal would be an epic title, Planescape: Torment is just a really really good one that everyone should play lest I set their house on fire.

I would have to say God of War, but not necessarily in a good way. The game just oozes epicness in every aspect. I'm not saying it's not unbelievably fun and satisfying (because it is), but I am saying that it feels like it's trying too hard.

For me, Mass Effect without doubt, especially those final cutscenes with the battle for the Citadel. I swear my face must have been an inch from the screen...

And Assassin's Creed, depite its many flaws, was still awesome, and looks to be completely fixed in AC2 .

Crisis Core FF VII. Good storyline, leveling system was crap, but storyline was good. And Genesis! EEEEEEEK!

Halo 3 is epic because of soundtrack. And the Cortana level.

.hack//G.U. almost completely takes the cake for me. Gameplay is solid, leveling system rocked, skill trigger, storyline was enthralling, characters were lovable. Damn I want volume 3...
