I'm sure this has probably been done, but I haven't seen it before.

In short, what cliched, overused, or downright ridiculous game/movie/book ending do you hate the most?

For me, it's when they kill off a main character for no reason or for some stupid contrived reason they pulled out of their ass at the last second.

Example: (I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I won't name what I'm referring to) they have you escort a random character who's supposed to be the last hope for everyone, they make the escort mission extremely difficult and then, at the end, they die anyway and are of no help to the main characters.

What the hell is that bullshit?

Happy endings. I'd like to see the bad guys win at least their fair share of battles.

They lived happily ever after (And it is implied they boned).

Or, better they, you must go on an epic quest to receive the power of epicness, only to find that the epic was in you THE WHOLE TIME.

Umm, Legacy Of Kain didn't end happily.

Lamest ending? No closure. Like in the comics.

It was all a Dream.

Examples include
Super Mario Bros. 2
Season 4 of Bones
That one time I was actually asleep
I always go "What?!" when it happens, even when I expect it.

You've killed everything, You fought your way thru hell and back, slaughtered any evi (or good) that stand in your way.

Then suddenly, as you put down the controller, relax, and relish in your victory, the cutscene shows you that: The Antagonist is still alive/there's a cliffhanger/the protagenist dies. etc.

The majority of movies do though.

This. By the end of Avatar i was praying the colonel and his cronies would end up winning. The whole thing was just so cliche it was annoying.

I beat God of War 3 before Zp posted that review and came up with the same conclusion: Lame. As. Hell.

And I saw it coming the moment they mentioned Pandora's Box (Its supposed to be a jar, damn it!).

Good point. Thought the thread question was directed to games only. My bad, sorry.

Somehow... the kid survives the horror movie. The small child somehow survives the horror movie... where he shouldn't have any knowledge of survival and has proven to be dumb as ****... He somehow manages to survive. **** you Hollywood... **** you...

I did however see a movie where the kid was eaten in the first twenty minutes and the rest of the movie kept on being awesome.

I'm not too sure about endings I hate but a good one was Fallout's ending (the very first game).

No happy ending there!

Awkward Yet Good-Hearted Virgin: "Well, it was hard, but we've finally managed to escape/kill the evil ghost/serial killer/alien symbiote! I certainly don't expect any more-"
Ghost/Serial Killer/Alien Symbiote: "Rawr."
AYGHV: "AAAAAGH!"
The End(?)

Heh, like metal gear solid 2, and loads of other games I can think of. It was mostly annoying in that game considering how annoying it was dragging her everywhere.

Hollywood psychological thrillers really love the whole "main character is the murderer!" thing these days. It was pretty clever and awesome the first time you saw it, but from there on it's honestly just another stock twist.
If it's even vaguely psychological I will be speculating the possibility of this twist after the first ten minutes.
