A relative asked me if I was planning on applying anywhere part-time, to which I responded that I was thinking of EB Games. Then she said, "Oh, that's pretty cool. More interesting than being a cashier I guess." I told her that being as a cashier is what I'd be doing there; she thought I would be making games. I went on to explain that it takes years of school to be qualified to work in the games industry, and she just laughed and said something along the lines of "That's ridiculous."
Later, she saw me playing a game (it was MGS4 I believe). She didn't realize it was a game at first (a forgivable mistake for a game like Metal Gear Solid). After I convinced her it was a game, I pointed out how good the graphics and animation were and tried to explain to her how much effort went into it (I mentioned that they needed motion capture actors, character artists, a composer, a director for cutscenes, etc), and in the end she pretty much refused to believe that games were even half as difficult to make as movies.
