Video games being "conclusively linked" to any high-profile crime in the media always gets my eyes a-rolling. Our passion is the new rock and roll is the new jazz is the new comic books is the new cartoons ad nauseum. I try not to take it too personally.

And this isn't about gaming in general, but a persistent comment I get from (a certain subset of) people is that video game music is nothing more than "dumb techno" and "random beeps." I understand that few people in the general public will "get" why I'm into game music, but someone getting on my case about it in an otherwise civil conversation is just jarring.

Obviously I don't hear this as much online, because this is the Internet and we are all nerds (or geeks, or dorks) - but it still bugs the pants off me whenever it happens. One notable time was back in college, and I had the FF6 soundtrack playing while I was pretending to listen to the guy's opinion on my tastes.

Heh, I've faced problems like that before. I also managed to prove my point. I told them "Well, actually, I'm getting into more classical music," and played an orchestrated piece filled with a very moving strings section, a very flowing piece. They loved it, asked what it was. I replied "The Final Fantasy Theme played by the Concert Twilite Orchestra." They never made another comment.

I get this a lot, especially when I get into the "BioShock vs. System Shock 2" Argument here on the Escapist. It's quite infuriating.

A game can't force someone to puck up a gun and go kill, if anything it provides an outlet for their depraved minds to act out their fantasies of mass murder without killing anyone in real life.

That article bothers me for the hyprocrisy in it. Hear me out.

Most games bash on Satan and God is the hero which is how Christians see it.
Ever hear of a Satanist complain about this? No? Thought so.
Yet a game about God is the bad guy or it propels the story and your a cultist or something and you see a bunch of people raving about how this might cause the apolcayse or some other ignorant bullshit.

EDIT: They can't be pleased can they? Dante's Inferno has the player kick Satans ass and they aren't happy I thought they wanted them to stop making games about killing God or working for the devil hmmm?
