Probably Deus Ex.

One of the first computer games to really draw me in, however, was the Westwood Blade Runner adaptation. I remember playing it for a second time and being astounded at how different the story played out. It, like the film, had a really compelling atmosphere and aesthetic.

I can't decide between Mass Effect and Chrono Cross. Both were just such remarkable games, and they drew me in like no other games ever could.

Mass Effect drew me in, to this day Bioware is the only one player games I'll buy
thats how they do it.... personally their games need more combat.... don't change it just add a bit more.
I can agree with that, I like a good story, but the walk and talk for half an hour sections are what usually make me save and come back later.
Mass effect is a good example 20% walking, 30% talking, 10% elivators 5% all guns, full squad, unlimited ammo, the force in all(sadly enemies die quick), solid action...... O and 45% DRIVING THE MAKO.

Dragon age was the best for the story (never played baulders gate but hey sue me) maybe because that was the only character who was not "set" {revan, shep, random chinese people who look like MK ripoffs, you know that MK deception story mode}. There was nothing to the character, he/she was just a random person and the dialoge options were deeper and were more complex. You actualy got to play the characters background....(even though that was the best part of the game.)
I'm liking the game. However the Heals aren't really that good to warrant the long cool downs they have. I do miss my character having a real voice though. I liked that about Mass Effect that your character would speak.
sounds like you need constitution, and hey mass effect 2 next tuesday.... In DA:O has anyone ever played as a rogue tank, warrior mage, turned morrigan into a spirit healer, or wynne into a bloodmage?....

Putting aside Fallout 3 (a game which I may never, ever stop playing), I used to lose myself for days inside of Myst and Riven, and Myst III, to a lesser extent.

I probably couldn't explain why, either; just the pure austerity of the first game allowed for your own imagination to go crazy inventing your own back story and history.

Dead Space and Fallout 3, I've never been a fan of horror games but Dead Space really convinced me that a horror game can be scary because I believed I was in a Space, in an empty ship and no one was coming to help me but myself. I must finish it

Fallout 3 was a brilliant idea of what the apocalypse should feel like, desolate, alone and everyone hates me. The bugs lost my immersion towards the end but only because I was hitting 100 hours

By genre, not ranked or anything:

RTS - Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, Command and Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour and Company of Heroes (is that blood in my adrenaline?)

I might have missed some.
Ok i have never found RTS immersive, is that even possible?
I was playing CoH at my friend's house together with another friend (not the one living there). Suddenly we realized that we just lost the last train home. It was long gone.. 30-40 minutes ago. Luckily.. we got picked up by a another friend of mine 2/3 on our way home (long walk when you're not planning to do it.. approx. 10 km). I suppose you can call that immersive. By the way, CoH is on sale on Steam atm.

Edit: RTS is immersive if you've got an itch for battle of minds where you must think quickly (unlike standard chess).

Half-Life + mods. modders took this game by the balls and moulded it into such a huge array of games, both single player and multiplayer. i must have spent thousands of hours playing everything i could get my hands on.

They Hunger 1-3, Darkstar, Heart of Evil, Azure sheep, Poke 646, Wanted, CS, DoD, TFC, SI, and Natural Selection to name but a few.

all for free and alot were vastly superior to what was available comercially.
