Examples: Buster Sword, Gunblade, Keyblade, Brotherhood (FFX's bubbly sword). And any other odd weapons from any JRPG, not just ones made by Square.

I gotta go with Sephiroth's sword, any sword that thin and long could never be swung right. Everytime one would swing it it would wobble through the air like a MFer.

Also maybe Rinoa's "Dogzooka." You know exactly what I mean if you've played FF8.

Edit: For the record, FFX and Kingdom Hearts are 2 of my favorite games ever so it's very hard for me to bash those.

Also, I never played FF9, so what is Zidane's weapon like? Is it as odd as the others?

I'm going with Eternal Sonata here.

It's a god damn umbrella for christs sake. How can you kill a giant demon with an umbrella!?

Your fists, why? ther are swords and guns a plenty everywhere, you have enough weapons to supply an entire army, yet no, your going to punch them in the face.

The kendama. Favored by Oichi of Samurai Warriors and Genis of Tales of Symphonia.

The only really unrealistic things about his sword are that it's about a foot too long (and too long a blade for too short a grip) and he's using it on foot.

The keyblade is not all that impratical, it's a mace-styled into a key.

But yeah the little dolls or the pets from final fantasy X-2 (masoct and trainer forms) are pretty impratical. The Lady Luck weapons seem pretty useless too, but that form comes with other...skils.

Probably the buster sword, seeing as it's about as tall and heavy as I am. But what it lacks in practicality, it makes up for in sheer awesome.

Unless it's like the umbrella in Wild Arms 2, whereby it would increase Magic Strength to make Lilka the natural magic user. Or Aerith's that had no Materia Slots but much higher physical offense than any weapon you have, at that time.

OP: I like all JRPG weapons, Great and Small. From the random book to the giant fish.
Most Umbrellas in Eternal Sonata are only for punching things in the face. Some of them have magic attributes, but most of them are just for punching stuff. Punchpunchpunchpunchpunchpunch.

Do you think I could beat Satan to death if I had a good looking umbrella?

Ok. time for fanboy education: The buster sword wasn't ridiculous in VII. It has steadily gotten larger in subsequent things. And it's awesome.
Gunblade as it appears in 8 is dumb. Subsequent reimaginings (a pistol with a sword on) are heavily practical. If you don't believe me, ask any Cervantes player.
The keyblade is magical, and used to attack magical beings. Practicality can and should be ignored. If it bothers you that much, replace it with a claymore in your mind.
Brotherhood is only impractical because of the way Tidus holds it. Hook end may not be the best idea for a quick hitter, Tidus.
The Masa is made of metals not found in our universe, and made in such a manner as to prevent said wobbling.

Now, as for my choice, the Oversized Sword is a strong contender, but I'm gonna give this one to the Submachine gunkatanas Weiss the Imacculate uses in Dirge of Cerberus. Shit makes no sense.

What about any of the summons? I mean they are these elaborate scenes that show them destroying entire worlds, but they barely put a dent in the demon you're fighting's HP?! Gimme a break!

It seems the gunblades are pretty damn popular contenders here, and I'd have to agree. Real gunblades (pistol swords actually) were short-lived and had questionable use. 'Twas slightly easier to access than a bayonet'd rifle, and if you were handy with a knife, it wouldn't be all that bad.

FF8. Ward's Anchor. He throws it at his enemies....and then has run over a pull it back.

Haven't played all that many jrpg, but I remember in Final Fantasy 6 there was a character who's weapon was a paintbrush. To be fair she was using it 'create' things, but still... a paintbrush? Really?

And in Final Fantasy 8 wasn't there a character who used an arm-mounted slingshot that could shoot a dog? It's particularly silly when you take into account almost everyone else is using guns....

Hmm. Golden Sun 2, The Sol Blade. You use the thing to knock the sun down onto people. THE SUN! How many suns does this world have?

Goofy's shield from KH. How did he get the idea to use a shield when you've got perfectly good swords lying around?

Im reading a lot of pot shots at FF8 here, all im going to say, have any of you played persona? more over in 4, your starting weapons are house hold items, like your charecter starts off with a 9 iron, and your first party member uses a set of wrenches, and later on you get a charecter that uses a folding chair.

and lets not forget the Mop from FF7, look it up
