FFVII had some hilariously impractical weapons, I believe Cid had a mop, Aeris had a parasol, Yuffie had a bouncy ball and Barret had a giant punch glove on a spring.

Those things aside, I'm going to have to go with Alice's Book, form Shadow Hearts. She just hit things over the head with the thing. BONK!

I'm going with Eternal Sonata here.

It's a god damn umbrella for christs sake. How can you kill a giant demon with an umbrella!?

6:20 watch and learn... Though I spose it was technically a team effort in the end.

And why are we focussing on just JRPGs, why not RPGs in general. I happen to consider a frying pan (Fable) a silly weapon, though I suppose not as impractical as some weapons out there.
He was CLEARLY not standing in the any light and thus couldn't possibly release a light-based attack.

Also, I never played FF9, so what is Zidane's weapon like? Is it as odd as the others?
He uses either 2 daggers or a double-ended sword (thing Darth Maul)

Your fists, why? ther are swords and guns a plenty everywhere, you have enough weapons to supply an entire army, yet no, your going to punch them in the face.
Ever been punched in the face by someone using knuckledusters or gloves with metal plating in them? Neither have I, but I'm sure it hurts like hell...
Actually, fist-type weapons are some of my favorite. Katars and Cestus' are always fun... (just google image them. Alternately, think of the assassin weapons from Diablo 2)

Examples: Buster Sword, Gunblade, Keyblade, Brotherhood (FFX's bubbly sword). And any other odd weapons from any JRPG, not just ones made by Square.

I gotta go with Sephiroth's sword, any sword that thin and long could never be swung right. Everytime one would swing it it would wobble through the air like a MFer.

Also maybe Rinoa's "Dogzooka." You know exactly what I mean if you've played FF8.

Edit: For the record, FFX and Kingdom Hearts are 2 of my favorite games ever so it's very hard for me to bash those.

Also, I never played FF9, so what is Zidane's weapon like? Is it as odd as the others?
Zidane just uses dual dagger. Nothing special. EDIT: Oh, and he can use a sword sometimes.

I'll have to put my vote in for the gunblade. It just doesn't make sense. If anyone can explain it, I'll be happen to hear them out.

The most impracticle sword out there goes to the Buster Sword by far. As it is described as being a blunt weapon!!! What kinda sword is used as blunt? The only one I can think of is a jitte but that is a defense sword if I remember properly.

Some weirder one at least to me: The Bells Geomancers equip in FF3DS, It's a good thing they can use the area around them to kick ass because a bell doesn't seem like it would get the job done.

Norma's bubble straw in Tales of Legendia, like above it's great she has magic to kick ass because I don't think too many demons would be getting the shit kicked out of them by bubbles.

Also not that it's impractical in any way but Will from Tales of Legendia is a mage who uses large hammers and is pretty buff. So why is he just staying in the back firing off magic. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it just struck me as odd.

Probably the buster sword, seeing as it's about as tall and heavy as I am. But what it lacks in practicality, it makes up for in sheer awesome.
its only problem is its so dull it cant ruin Sephiroth´s sword, which is so long and so thin, the Buster sword should be able to snap it like twigs.

the gunblade could make sense. if it had a much larger handle with support grip (the half circle pirates have around their saber handles9, a broader blade with a hole in the middle for the bullets and the person wielding it was batshit strong, it could work out.

The only problem with Sephiroth's sword is that the hilt is too short for what it really is: a nodachi, primary use was anti-horse.

And screw rpg impractical weapons, let's try some REAL impractical weapons: like the Davey Crockett.

the Cornershot actually worked. but overuse would destroy the barrel, rendering the SGT44 useless. but you have to admit it was a cool concept.

The thing that it doesn't. It doesn't have a hole in the top for bullets, and the grip would probably just break your wrist considering the size. If you did fire one of the bullet it would have no place to go, so it would just fuck up the "sword".
I still think the "sharkzooka" would have been much more badass.

... What? Somebody had to say it.
^this. Those things are too big to fight while er...having. And they just keep getting bigger to the point where the spindly little waists supposedly supporting them would snap right in half.

I notice that Phantasy Star Zero has both shields and gunblades as viable weapons, as well as many other impractical weapons such as pizza, a watering can and various video game magazines.

Must we stick only to JRPGs?

The Ultima series has the most impractical weapon, but it's intentionally designed to be that way. The Glass Swords can kill any killable character or creature with a single blow, but will shatter on impact. They're basically disposable death. Now, I imagine that we are, at least to some extent, applying realistic contexts to these weapons, so if you consider that a glass sword is weak enough to shatter on impact, you gotta imagine that it needs to be handled pretty delicately in the time that you're carrying it around and not using it. When you're on a quest of epic adventure, it would suck to have to tread lightly so that you don't break a disposable weapon.

A close second goes to Ultima's poison dagger, though this is strictly in the context of the game. Sure, in a real life context, a poison dagger is, by definition, pretty damn lethal, quick, silent and concealable, but in the Ultima games, there is no stealth. There is only combat, and the effects of the poison are moot on enemies, since the effects are too slow to be of any assistance. You'll end up killing them based on the dagger's base damage well before the poison effects will even come to play. And, in a video game, knowing that you've caused a troll long-term illness is of very little consolation.

In terms of JRPGs, though...

Now, before I get the lectures: I say this *jokingly*. I admit I never played the game before, so I emphasize that I'm being facetious when I say that Persona 3 doesn't seem practical to me, in that your weapon is that you SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE HEAD. LOL
