When I was going to a private Christian school, my Bible teacher (who, by coincidence, was also the principal/administrator) said, in retaliation to hypothetical people saying that Christians worshipped a dead guy, that Buddhists worshipped a dead guy and no one called them out on it.

there are 9 planets. i dont care what ANY teacher says, Pluto is a planet.
So you disagree with Ph.Ds and other people who have spent their whole lives studying a subject much longer than you have?
Due to recent discoveries actualy, if Pluto were to keep it's planet status there are 4 or 5 other similar bodies that would have to be upgraded to planets.
Indeed, I find that to be an interesting discovery, but I was discussing the fallacy of some random high school or college student disagreeing on a non-moral/philosophical issue (because morals and philosophy have no right or wrong answers) with people who have Ph.Ds or have otherwise spent their entire lives being educated in and studying the issue. I'm not saying we should hold everything they say at absolute truth value, because there's certainly wiggle room and Ph.Ds, contrary to what they may tell you, can still make mistakes, nevertheless, I'm not inclined to believe some random person on the internet who says that he or she is right and scientists are wrong.

or intestines. How friggin' romantic that must feel...
I call bullshit on the intestine condom idea. They tried to tell us about that in sex ed, but I know Tennis Racquet wires used to be made from cow intestines & that they'd fall apart if they got wet...
Actually a few condoms are made from sheep intestines. They're for those that are allergic to latex (which is actually alot of people). Unfortunately, they don't protect against STDs as good as the latex condoms because the viruses and bacteria can more easily pass through the larger holes of the intestine condoms. But the slightly bigger spermies still can't get through.

I'm training to be a doctor, so I should...know this...stuff...*backs away slowly*

Edit: This site needs a damn ninja condom.

I had an English teacher that taught us the Bible. That would be cool if she treated it as any other piece of literature. But NO, she wanted us to treat it as if it really was the words of God or whatever the Hell it's supposed to be. And my poor grade that year reflected my conflictions with her faith. Crazy whore.

High school, year eleven (I suppose junior year to Americans?), Biology class. "Animals and plants are the two Kingdoms." Now I knew damn well the proper way that classification works, and I decided to let the teacher acknowledge and fix her mistake. "But miss, I thought that bacteria had their own Kingdoms? Protista, Monera and Fungi, y'know?" "NO, they are within the plants kingdom." "Are you sure?" "ABSOLUTELY THERE ARE ONLY TWO KINGDOMS EVERYBODY." Thirty kids in the class laughed at me, four or five shook their heads and gave me sympathetic looks. As if to make it worse, she always said plants and animals, not Animalia and Plantae, and she couldn't tell me what the lower levels of classification are (Phylum, Class, Order, etc).

..And 4 years of my own life were lost to this same situation.

Damn impressionable young mind-sets! >_<

Yeah, that one's actually true. It's the same basic premise as using intestinal lining as sausage casing, which is an older method, and actually works better than that plastic stuff.

Christopher Columbus discovered America. The rest of the world thought the Earth was flat but HE PROVED THEM WRONG! And he was a complete tosser that tried to find India without knowing WTF India was like. It was akin to sending a guy to hunt for deer without telling him what deer look like.

The general candy-coated crap. George Washington never lied because of a cherry tree. Lincoln freed the slaves because he was just an awesome guy and not as a simple byproduct of much larger issues.

I was also told that Washington could have become king but decided he didn't want that all on his own. For some reason, I doubt this.

I also had to argue with a teacher about whether or not Austria is a country. I was in fourth grade and told her my family was from Austria. She kept correcting me by saying 'Australia'.

I have no idea why, but that infuriates me now. She was always very nice to me and I liked her.

There's also a really horrific, inaccurate lesson I was taught that I came here to post about, but I plum forgot about it. :(

hahahaha! Who the hell taught you?! The war of 1812 was between America and Britain, Canada just fought on Britains side.

I am still out of breath from laughing so hard because you said that. LOL :D
You realise that it was fought in Canada, with the Canadian militia fighting beside the British soldier right? And while were on the topic, did you know the Canadians sacked the white house? During 1812 we raided DC, and at one point somebody lit the white house on fire. That is why it is white; the damage was so intensive they had to white wash the walls.
It was British soldiers actually. It's what's known as the 'militia myth'. The Canadian Militia had some part in the war, just not as much as made out.

On the outcome of the war, it could be argued that both sides won. The US remained independent, and the reasons for starting the war no longer applied, whilst Britain kept control of Canada.

Eh... It's socialist on paper, but I wouldn't really call Norway a socialist country
All of Scandinavia is governed by a foundational system of so-called "Scandinavian Socialism". So, yeah, Norway is socialist. And so are large parts of Europe.

Socialism does not equal communism.
Communism does not equal the Soviet Union.
Since I don't want to turn yet another thread off-topic by posting the same information again, I'll refer you to "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx.

Edit: Oh crap, forgot to write my contribution to the topic...

I was once asked by a teacher what happened in Sweden in 1917, to which I replied we had a rebellion. I was then told there had not been a rebellion in Sweden for hundreds of years. I guess he forgot about the hunger-rebellion of 1917-1918.

that being a nice person always pays off in the end.... yea, right.
define "nice person"
:(
The way I was told to behave in the school I went to as a child was to be passive and turn the other cheek when ever possible. If you do this then in the end things will work out better for you. no matter what any one does to you never retaliate, they will get whats coming to them.

This extreme form of pacifism is what was taught to me from a very early age. Its a stupid school of logic.
in primary school if someone bullies you the you should say "stop it please I don't like it"
- it does not work!- if someone is a dick then hit them- by doing this you instantly assure they get whats coming to them and they wont do it again

I was taught that everyone is equal.

What a load of horseshit that turned out to be. My boobs aren't anywhere near as awesome as the ones on the wimmenfolk.
Well everyone is equal in their rights. Well at least in America that's true.
Not homosexuals. And not teenaged girls who've been raped by their fathers (depending upon the state).
The rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Someone can take your life away, but they don't have the right to.
That wasn't even a response to my comment...
oh please- the concept of democratic equality is bullshit- total equality is unobtainable democracy is shit, fashist leaders are nutjobs and we have yet to get communism to work properly
and also if you are born into a rich family then you get the best healthcare, education, you are set for life and you dont have to do fuck all
compare that to someone born into a shit low class city with poor schools, no money or jobs

do you see how this whole "golden shining democracy" is flawed

Wrong. Well, mostly. [http://snopes.com/language/colors/whitehouse.asp]

On-topic, that "Catcher in the Rye" was a deep book that was interesting because of the hypocrisy.
