Actually, I've never played it.

OT: Ashley from Resident Evil 4 can be quite infuriating at times.

Far Cry 2.

The AI was so terrible, they actually made it so you had to die before they actually let it do something.

"You really suck that badly? Fine, take this as help. Basically, it's a break so you can heal. There you are, now go finish up you knob."

The Necromancers in Oblivion needed some help, I would often piss off a large number of them and then run to the closest body of water. Use my water breathing to get as deep as possible (so they can't cast spells) then I would just lead them to the closest town and watch them charge in like they were warriors.

Oblivion.

those 2 Knights of the Thorn, that 1 BattleMage....

Are they really stupid? or are they just suicidal?
Knights of the Thorn? I haven't played Oblivion in awhile, are you referring to the quest where that one Lord's son and his merry men went running headlong into an Oblivion gate and you have to go in after them and bring at least the son back, alive if possible?

Oblivion.
The Adoring fan.

"BY AZURA BY AZURA BY AZ-Why are you pointing your arrow at me?"

I could deal with the annoying sayings, the sickening innocence, and the fact that he would run away from wolves, but fight Daedroth.
I could deal.
But then he just wouldn't stop chatting up my assasination targets. He's go over, talk to them, then come back over to me, with the target still watching.
Then I'm left there think "So much for a quiet kill".

I think Left 4 Dead is a strong candidate. On any other difficulty than expert, the bots could still be tolerated and sometimes even useful. But when you hit expert, they just tend to get themselves incapacitated and consume every bit of found equipment in a nanosecond. Also they are quite fond of healing themselves when there's really no need to (i.e. when they have about half of their health bar left).

But then again Resident Evil 5 may just win this one. For obvious reasons.

Fans of Guild Wars know...

Rurik, Mhenlo, and Togo... quite possibly the worst NPC's you've ever been forced to escort on a mission.

Koss. He's just a doofus.

I love Halo but I tried to avoid the marines when possible,
BUT! my opinion changed when they saved me a few days ago in reach: a ghost was just ready to hit me when a warthog full of marines almost did a suicide crash into it thus saving me a splatter dead. GO MARINES!

It's been said before but Oblivion.

Now I'm obsessive with keeping all NPCs I can alive. Kvatch guards, Knights Of The Nine, and anyone else with a name that can die. Which Is why I'm angry whenever one of these dense bastards is found by me dead on the road next to a Land Dreugh. I don't care if you have a scaled dagger and magic run from the monster!

And when these guys charge right into battle, only to get knocked into lava or off a cliff once ... I lost so many of my followers on Dive Rock damn the Minotaur Lord.

And in the end, after working hard to save these bastards what do I get? Nothing. Just an occasional, "Oh it's you." while they wait around to get slaughtered by a passing Xiviali.

Resident evil 5, it's known by all how bad the AI is, but I never dealt with it since my sister was my co-op partner.

Of course every guide from the Zelda series that traveled with Link, except Midna of course, she and Shad were the only characters I gave a damn about in that game, lol, Midna was cute and Shad was the funny, smart and sensitive nerd type.

Fable.

"Your health is low! Do you have any potions? Or food?"

Of course, in Fable II, if you watch carefully, you get a good chuckle after reading one of the loading screens...

Left 4 Dead...instead of helping me up while hanging on a cliff, my good ol' friend jumped down aswell.
I think that the AI in the first left 4 dead is better than 75% of all the people you find in random games, its L4D2 AI that pisses me off.

Dead Rising 2 comes to mind.
The AI may be improved from the original Dead Rising, but it's merely an upgrade from pants-on-head retarded to just regular retarded.

It's mostly frustrating that they don't learn to keep a certain distance from me when I'm cutting through a horde of zombies with a laser sword or baseball bat, get in my way, and take a huge chunk of damage. Then they have the sheer lack of intellect to turn on me (the only person trying to help them by the way) because they were too dumb to know that getting hit by a battle axe would likely hurt.
