Baten Kaitos mixed up a fine blend of card battling/RPG stew that I thought was very tasty.

Wow. I didn't think anyone but me played that game.
The opening cinematic was truly epic

Deus Ex is a decent hybrid, not to mention one of the best games ever. Another one is Sacrifice, which is hard to classify: 3rd person over-the-shoulder roleplay strategy?
True gems. Both of them. I suppose one could say they are hybrid class too.

Finally, somebody else that's played Sacrifice! I got hooked off the demo, as I often do from good demos, and first time through completed it going down the James route. Not exactly the hardest, as in the final battle, I simply got rid of most of Marduks forces by Boring underneath him and having his army tumble into the abyss, hee hee hee! >:)

Fire Emblem is a good mix of turn based strategy and RPG. The fact that every game but one in the series had a finite number of battles to prevent level grinding was a nice touch to avoid such things and whenever a character died they stayed dead forcing you to actually think your moves out. It is also the first JRPG series to take on western themes.
Hm? SRPGs have their own genre. It's not that much of a mix. Also, the arenas in the older games gave you gold for level grinding. Lots of it. And they were easily exploitable, to boot. They were uncommon, but gamebreaking. Nine and ten took steps to rectify this, but it's uncertain if the BEXP mechanic is going to be continued. The one-life system has issues, too. It makes you more cautious, sure, but it also punishes you for things like poor luck. Anybody who's spent ten minutes with FE can remember getting screwed over by misses at 90% hit, or having a character killed by a 2% critical. In other games you'd curse and adapt, but in FE, you have to reset the level, if it was a useful character.

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned the upcoming Mirror's Edge, touted as a "First Person Runner", or something to that effect. Isn't there also a PS3 game that's a mixture of SRPG and shooter? Valkyria Chronicles, or something to that effect. I forget the title.

Got the title right, but there isn't much "shooter" involved, I would say it's more like a twist on the standard SRPG mechanics with a nice little action element thrown in (you can dodge enemy covering fire).

Star Control II. Part adventure game, part RPG, part exploration, part space combat.

This was probably the first game of its kind that so masterfully blended so many genres. It certainly was the first of its kind when I played it.

Absolutely brilliant and groundbreaking game for its time and it's still fun even today.

Vagrant Story provides a cool blend of real-time RPG and platform puzzles, of all things.

SPORE!!!
*beretta blowjob*

Thread Space: Hyperbol is actually quite interesting, being a mix of 3rd person shooter, RTS and space dogfight.

Portal comes into mind too... This world needs more FPS/Puzzle games like that one.

D.I.P.R.I.P. is not actually a hybrid, but I thought I would mention it too as it combines FPS gamemodes with vehicle combat gameplay.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. Best FPS/Platformer ever, with a neat twist halfway through.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. = FPS + RPG. I love that game so very, very much.

Hitman was kinda like a stealth game, but you could also just run around shooting every one you saw, also you flick between FPS and third person, which was pretty cool.

Space Rangers 2. Combines turn-based strategy, real-time strategy, and even text adventures. It's so bizarre you'd have to try it.

I haven't played most of the games you people are talking about, but I thought I'd mention Battlestations Midway. Fun and interesting mix of RTS style command and then the ability to switch between and control any of your units for however long you like.

Plus, it's World War 2 naval combat, including ships (from torpedo boats to battleships), submarines, and planes (both dogfighting in fighters and making bombing and torpedo runs). Good stuff.

Whatever the hell Savage 2 is, it's great.
Another excellent example! Both Savages, in fact. Great mix of RTS and TPS with some RPG elements! Keep 'em coming!

COME ON! No one else has played Breakdown? Easily one of the greatest games I've ever played, and a perfect combo of FPS and first-person fighter. And I also have to put a plug in for Total War and Deus Ex. And let us not forget Overlord, a mix of action and minion management. And finally, Oblivion, the combo of FPS and RPG. But seriously, the best is BREAKDOWN.
