Most Over-Hyped Game and / or Game Series

Super Smash series: Yes, we all know you have certain rules for getting your ass kicked, tourneygoer. Certain characters are banned, certain stages are banned, and all items are off. Problem is, you're at my house and that's my GameCube controller with the steel nib. Think your thumb's hardcore enough for it or would you rather play by my rules that are meant for fun instead of competition? I thought so. Now pick up your Classic Controller before I kick you out.

My bf is one of the Smash Bros tourney nerds... (sad I know ) But I am pretty sure that characters arent banned, just certain lvls and items are off. They dont ban the chars, if you wanna choose jigglypuff and suck, they arent going to stop you, it gets them closer to winning the $4 at the end. And I would have to agree about this game, Gears, Halo(s), Guitar Hero(s), Call of Duty 5, Any superhero game, made from a movie...

Halo. The first one was great but 2 was just a crappy version of the first game. And while 3 was good it was still overrated to death.

Half-Life 2, so many people I know foam at the mouth for this game, but I thought it was an average shooter, with some really fun physics and puzzles.

Also, for the people who say they don't understand why people liked Half-life 2 so much:

You have to keep it in mind that Half-life 2 is not a recent tittle, it's over 4-5 years old. Standards have grown allot since it's release and while it may not look stunning now it was awesome when it first came out in 2004 or 2005 (i don't really remember).

I mean let's go back in time for a few moments. Let's say it's the year or 2004, at that time The original Unreal Tournament was about as old back then as Half-life 2 is now. Would you try to compare the original Unreal Tournament to Half-life 2 and then say: Oh! But Unreal Tournament is SO poor compared to what i have played recently!

Saying something like that would be no different then trying to compare Half-life 2 to something released recently.

No I played it when it first came out and I didn't like it.

Ok, but there are plenty of other people bashing the game for not being as good as recent releases. Though to be fair the game "was" re-released again not to long ago as part of the orange box for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. So it kind of depends on how you look at it.

I played it at release and enjoyed it, but didn't think it would grow into the phenomenon that it is now, I bought the orange box to play through, and I don't care for it on the console at all.

Have you ever played a game that everyone was SCREAMING about and when you were done with it were like "THAT is what everyone was excited about?!" Well I want you to air out your frustration let it out here. I wanna know what games or series let you feeling unfulfilled after playing it. And no you didn't have to finish it for it to count.

I completly agree with you about halo I thought is was a fairl generic Fps I mean fun but nothing that WOWed me by any means, I do like half life may not be worth all the hype but it was good as a whole clever idea fun gameplay

WoW. It's all right, but after playing it for a few months, I've never really found a reason to sink $30 into another game card so I can grind some more. If it were a singleplayer RPG it would be completely fucking awesome, but the way it is--no.

If it was singleplayer, it would be horrible. The fun of WoW is playing with other people.

Nah, what I meant was that if they'd adapted it into a single player game it would be better. I agree, it would be horrible if the game was exactly how it was only with a single player in the game world. But I think if it had been changed so that actions you performed affected the game world, NPCs were a little more interesting and dynamic, there was some sort of main storyline, etc. it would make quite an excellent singleplayer RPG.

These are EXACTLY the two I would have picked. I didn't think any of the HLs or Halos were bad, I just didn't think they lived up to the hype. Actually, scratch that, I did think Halo 1 was horrible.

Mass Effect is another one. Everyone I know told me to get that game and all the reviews said good things and I frakken hated it. I still can't even understand how anyone could possibly like it.

Oh yeah Mass Effect too! My friend Matt felt like it was the second coming of God but all I saw was an alright game...

To me a over-hyped game means a bad game that got a lot of praise / advertisement from the company and or fanboys. Not a Good game that you just didn't happen to like (looking at you half-life haters).
