OT: Final Fantasy, I don't see much point in saying anything about this. I just don't think it truly deserves the amount of love/fans it has had for the past few years.
Which FF games? The new(er) ones or the old ones? The older FF games are so radically different in gameplay mechanics that they are barely the same series...

Speaking of the CD-i Trilogy for Zelda do those fit in the timeline somewhere. I am going to laugh if they do.
No. They are not canon. At all. However, as to not disappoint... Some elements of the Star Wars Holiday Special ARE canon.

Portal. Seriously, it was not handed down by God himself to be the salvation of mankind. Sorry to disappoint that cult that seems to be forming.

I don't think you can really call CoD overrated any more. The only things I ever hear about it are how it's absolute trash and it's destroying the gaming industry.
I think the biggest thing about Portal that I find about it to be great is that it was conceptualized as a Senior Project for a group of kids at Digipen. Shown at GDC and picked up to be turned into the game that it became.

I'm having a hard time thinking back at the moment, but I'll say Crysis 2 for now since it's fresh in my mind. It was like the first game (the first half of which was fantastic), with all the best aspects removed. Somehow it still managed to get a lot of good reviews.
Huh, bummer, I really liked it. Then again I haven't played the first.

Halo, definitely. The first was brilliant, then all the rest got worse and worse campaign/story wise while their multiplayer modes got improvements.
Of course they've now pretty much made Halo multiplayer as good as it can get in Halo Reach, but we got, in my eyes, one of if not the worst campaign mode I've ever played.

Hope they don't somehow fuck up the Halo CE remake, because I'm sure thats going to be a hell of a lot better than whatever they do with Halo 4.

...and 5, and 6.

I really think its COD, but if you were forcing me to be original, I'd say any game that trys to sell itself on multiplayer mode. I personally dont like playing multiplayer online games, and Im never able to get someone who like the same games as me on our own to play splitscreen. And its just rude to play a two player game when more people than that are around.

Anyone of them that had a truly bland story/characters that has come out past #2, so basically 4-6, 8, 10+.

Ummm... I doubgt you can really call FF6's characters bland. FF4's are alright. And I don't seem to remember anything about FF5. At all. Odd.

FF3 had no preset characters/personalities either.

I notice you left FF7 out of that list while calling FF6s' characters bland. That's a boat of fail right there.

FF7 was my first time playing FF since #2, so I am biased this is true. I did not like FF6 and seeing this forum is completely based on opinion, I could call the whole damn JRPG genre trash and still be right, no matter how wrong you think I am. (No JRPGs are not trash)

Yes, they are. Yes they are, my good Ace! Simply...

OT: Highly rated. These games are highly rated. Not a good thing, not a bad thing, just kinda obnoxious. If I can see why people would like a game like this, which is pretty much every "overrated" game ever, I simply call it highly rated. Most of these overrated games are just highly rated games you happen not to like.

Well, I'd have to say Half Life 2, Portal, Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, and Psychonauts...funny thing is that I like these games. Yeah, I REALLY like these games, but some people tend to go overboard with their love of it. Now, there's a line between simply expressing your love for a game and shoving that love up someone's ass...sadly that is a very thin, crudely drawn, that can be misinterpreted for a skid mark, instead of an actual drawn line. One's man expression is another man's irritation. So I try to tone it down, when expressing my love for them. Since I also know their flaws...

As for a highly rated games I don't like...Mass Effect. The RPG element's are not too great, the gameplay isn't too fantastic, and I just couldn't get too into it. Which sucks cause I should love this type of game, especially getting to explore alien planets. But driving...nightmares

Oh well, Prey 2's on the way!

Actually, I'd accuse you of throwing out the baby with the bath water. There is simply no genre with nothing to offer us (as players) or gaming (as an art form). Except, quite possibly, sports games. But nobody buys those.

dead space, not scary, not creepy, and yes i have a very loud 5.1 surround system plugged into my xbox, but i was just bored. also half life 2, it started off well, but the middle bit is where i lost interest, it never felt like i was accomplishing anything, i was always being told to move on to the next location shortly after arriving somewhere, after a while, i think shortlty after the head crab bit, i was told to move on again, i said no, and didnt play the game for 6 months.

How about I list the game series I deem over rated?

Halo: 1 and 2 were good shooters, not perfect, but good. Then 3 and the rest come. 3 was meh to me, ODST had potential but didn't live up to it, and Reach was good but the ending is sorely over-rated. Wow, an ending where you die, how original.

Assassin's Creed: All of them just seem to have either horrible pacing or artificial length. Not to mention the story, ughh. Can't hold a candle to Legacy of Kain's story.

Capcom Fighters: All of them. They just feel too slow, with fans that like to say "Its game engine is the best technically!" which, while true, is in no way an indication of it being Fun. That is why I have more fun with Mortal Kombat than Super Extreme Street Brawlers 480: Supreme Alternate Custom Edition.

Half-life: Likely due to having experienced them years after their respective periods, but regardless, I don't like them. The story is not engaging in the slightest, I felt ripped off with Episode 2 (I gave the episodes their own chances), and I honestly couldn't care about most of the characters. G-man has some charm, but Alyx and co. don't really appeal to me. No, I don't care that she doesn't have "Supah Sexai outfats", I care that she has a boring character with slight like-ability.

I've seen a few say COD. Now, I may be wrong, but doesn't it mean that if you think that something is overrated, that you think the popular opinion of something is higher than it should be? Like many found Avatar to be good, while I find it overrated? So..., how is COD overrated when the popular opinion means it sucks? Don't take me wrong, I don't like COD, but I don't find it overrated (if I got the meaning of the word right). If I'm wrong, please tell me :p

OT: Assasins Creed. It was a bit too repetitive for my taste.

As tempting as it is to immediately say CoD, it's not. While Black Ops is hideously overrated in my opinion, the zombie mode is solid and the narrative is original, at least for a CoD game. Plus, if you look a little further back, Modern Warfare was an EXCELLENT game, relatively speaking.

On a personal scale, Oblivion. My friends all like it and I don't. It's that simple. However, the entire world is against me on that one, so it doesn't feel right putting it as the most overrated game of all time; it's just my personal top.

If I look at reviews and then juxtapose them with personal experience, I'd have to say either Halo 3 or World of Warcraft.

Most overrated that I've played? Metroid on the NES. That game angers me because of how you get revived with a mere 30 health when you can max it out at 99 right from the start. And even with the maximum health you can have capping at 699, you can STILL only have 30 health after coming back from death. Maybe it's just because I didn't play it when it first came out, but that's a crap excuse. There are other NES games I didn't grow up with and checked out later in life (Punch-Out? :] Kid Icarus? :] Bionic Commando? :D). Maybe I just had high expectations for Metroid that just weren't met.

Super Metroid was fun, though. Maybe it was the smoother controls, or the wide variety of environments, or the fact that I didn't have choose between grinding or dying and thus actually could reach and fight a frackin' boss.

AGREE... that is all.
