I'd agree with Halo being way over hyped

I thoroughly enjoyed beating the game but I got tired of hearing about it everywhere I went

Bioshock. I bought it than happily gone home to have fun with it all night long but i was disappointed a lot.

Counter-Strike. That's the worst game I have ever played with.
Counter strike? source?
i dissagree i think it's a great FPS!
the only problem with the game is that when your a new player you get your ass kicked
i'd like to hear some reasons please
It's 1.6. Anyway I knew that they will kick my ass for a pretty long time when i bought the game, that's not problem. The problem is the system. It's pure luck. I mean the moments when your crouching with an m4 shooting 2-3 round bursts at someone and he jumps and runs all over while mindlessly spraying and headshots you.

Most overhyped game definitely has 4 letters in total, starts with H, ends with "lo" and has an "a" in there somewhere.
Wait, I don't get it...lol. One word, also 4 letters, begins with "L" and ends with "air".

Over-hyped: FarCry2. The 1st one was fun and all, and the 2nd was supposed to take good steps in all directions, but it failed horribly.

Over-rated: The sims, especially The Sims 3. I remember playing this game just for the house-creating part, everyting else was bad.

There are some games i would never thought of putting in here like Half-life, Counter strike, CoD4 and Bioshock.

I don't think Soul Caliber was overated - it was shit but I don't think enough people cared about the game. Hmmm I would say LoZ OoT but I only played it for about an hour before I got bored (note I played it years after it came out).
I agree that Soul Calibre was a bit crap, but if I am honest (and im rather ashamed to say) if i were ever to defend a game it would be LoZ:OoT because even by todays standards its still a good and solid game
Why be ashamed to defend OOT?

You're absolutely right to defend it as it is a true classic of the medium.

It had many flaws that seem even more apparent nowadays but the level design and inventive puzzles and temples in that game are just genius.

I only played it for the first time this year, believe it or not and I loved it, even if it drove me insane with frustration a few times.

I don't care what anyone says, old school Zelda games were TOUGH.

simple its called halo
Halo: CE wasn't overrated but you might have an arguement for Halo 2 and Halo 3. Halo CE wasn't expected to sell big.

If he offers you a ride in his white carrage, run. DON'T look at his tatterd (spelling check) spire even if it does shoot white magic out at the top.

The Madden NFL series is boring to me, and they barely add or change anything with each game. The game has not been worked on very hard, and it is easy to tell.

Halo, Half-Life 2, Assassin's Creed and Resistance. Also known as repetitive, pointless, monotonous and pedestrian.

Oh, special honorary mention for everything Peter Molyneux has ever been involved with.

In terms of over-hyped games, Spore. That will always be my answer to this question.

It's just nothing like it was supposed to be. I followed it from the beginning. When they released the demo for creature creation, I loved it. The game did nothing to make me believe that it would not live up to expectations, but it somehow failed.

First, the creation aspect of the game is fine. It exceeded my expectations. You can make nearly any creature or vehicle and the game will still find a way to have them move and behave properly (usually).

But while the creation aspect of the game is great, the game play is terrible. You make these amazing creations but you have nothing to do with them. The game play is repetitive and shallow. Your only options for dealing with other species are to be friends or kill them. Eventually, being friends stops being an option (it becomes absurdly difficult to make and maintain relationships between other species, and at some times it is impossible). So eventually you just have to kill almost everyone. And while you can build nearly any type of building you can imagine, you have to shove them into stupid little peg holes in each city. Customization is very limited there, which was supposed to be one of the games strong points. It only becomes more limited when you reach the space stage.

One of the things they always talked about was how you would be able to change planets in almost any way. Carve rivers into the planet, terraform the planet, draw designs into the planet with craters. But in the final game the only way you can change the planets is with stupid cookie cutter designs. So almost every planet, no matter how you try to customize them, ends up looking the same. This only enhanced by the fact that in order to terraform a planet you have to throw down some plants and animals onto its surface. Usually this involves planting down the same generic creatures and flora you have gathered form your own planets. I'm not even going to talk about diplomacy and combat in the space stage, suffice to say that it is both pathetic and frustrating.

TL;DR: Spore has some great customization in the initial stages, but the poor gameplay and lack of customization later in the game ruins the experience.
