The point of the playboy mags was probably to stir up some controversy and get more people looking at the game.
That and I imagine Playboy probably payed a healthy sum of money for the product placement.
Yes, more publishers should look into this before bitching about used sales. There's a hell of a lot of unused ad space in games.

I thought the sandbox was useless in No More Heroes. What was the point, to bore me to tears BEFORE I have to play the gas pumping minigame?

In a general sense, I also think these achievement trophies are pointless too.

The .32 pistol in Fallout 3. The starting pistol is better, and the ammo for the .32 is the same as the hunting rifle which you get around the same time.

The Stealth GUn in MGS: Peace Walker is also worthless. It makes whatever you are targeting invisible, so it is just dead weight in singleplayer.
but what about the lonely spork?

The pitcher plant from Oblivion gives you the option to harvest, but no ingredient exists in its coding, so it's a 100% rate of you finding nothing useful. I wouldn't say it's completely pointless, just pointless for an alchemy plant.
There was a lot of pointless shit in Oblivion that you could pick up that never fucking did anything. All those knives and forks, plates and vases and bones and all this shit that was worthless and had no purpose, was so misleading as someone on their first playthrough. Annoying as a veteran.

Oh and OP obviously the magazines are all about multitasking if you know what I mean...

I see your pitcher plant and raise you a blood potion...

No weight, no value, no purpose... makes me think it must have been something that was scrapped that they then forgot to take out.
When I first found a blood potion I thought vampires could use them as an option for feeding. I was disappointed when I found out that wasn't the case. I imagine that was their original purpose, but they never added the feature to the game.
OP: The Giant's Knife from Ocarina Of Time. When you first buy it you're thinking "awesome a big sword, it must be pretty powerful" ^_^ But then you hit an enemy with it and it breaks on the first strike -_-

THIS; and on the topic of Legend of Zelda... The razor sword in Majora's mask. you would get it by wasting a day; and then have to upgrade it AGAIN to make it be permanent. I got the razor upgrade and thought "oh cool; a stronger weapon," then it wore off... um... the fuck?

OP: i hate when you have some games (i cant remember most of the ones i thought of when i first got into this thread) where you save up a ludicrous ammount for some rediculously good item; only to have bought it; and at the end of whatever task you neede the item for; you get something better (usually happens in MMO's and RPG's)

OR when you farm for the "best item in the game" only for it to run on money, or health, or your allowance for the next few years, or have some stupid drawback (i'm looking at you windwaker... stupid money-consuming armor.)

Acheivements.

Collectibles (that have no impact on gameplay).

And.. vendor trash (broken weapons in D2, underpowered throwable items in rpgs ect ect)

I agree with the trowing weapons. (Diablo II example: Why the hell would I use a 14-24 damage bomb when my bow is 25-50 and the arrows are much cheaper?)

In one of the Laguna dream levels in FF8 you find a key but drop it and find it like friggin' way in the back of the cave again then lose it again. It has no reason to exist, there's no explanation as to why this is here, it just is. It's not even funny or entertaining or brings up any interesting conversations. It's just an invisible key that you can find like twice! So basically any absolutely useless event programmed into a game.

It's not an object in a game but it is a pointless thing in games and that is the forced stealth levels with the "if you are spotted once, you have to restart" rule. Now it's not something to complain about if you are playing a stealth game, but if the game is a 3rd person action/shooter/platformer you shouldn't be asked to do something like that especially since 99% of the time you will never do it again in that game.

Metal Gear Solid 3.

Throughout the game, aiming in first-person is easy and there is nothing that separates it from MGS2 or 4. But when Snake, um, earns his eyepatch, you'll notice that from that point on when you go first-person the right tenth or fifteenth of the screen goes dark.

No fucking point whatsoever. Extra credit points EVERYWHERE.
Close one eye. See what happens to your field of vision. It may be annoying, but it made sense for a first-person viewpoint where you see what snake sees.

OT: The motion sensitive controls in KZ2 really annoyed me the first time I played through. They were really out of place and obviously a tack-on. I'm disappointed that Guerrilla kept them in for KZ3.
Thank you for explaining exactly what I already said.
