GTA IV - I just love walking down a street, seeing people packing things into their car trunks, chatting on the phone, once on Free Mode I found a guy whose car had broke down, and he was really acting like he was... real. Add to that weather effects, physics/ragdoll engine, and car detailing and it's sooo cool. I really like the characters, who have a caricature look to them but still look and feel real.

Operation: Flashpoint and the ARMA series as far as FPSs go.
Second. And just wait for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. If what they say is true, this game will surpass the rest.
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not...

If anybody has seen the gameplay of the new OFP2 then you'll choose it over ArmA 2.

You can command your squad to raid buildings and stuff it looks so badass.
"Now you can see I've taken a hit to my head. It's nothing serious, but I am bleeding badly." - OFP2 live demonstration commentary.

Just look at 1:10 or so. Note that he mentions that he's not invulnerable later in the video. The very inclusion of a medpack also kills it for me.

I have lost faith in OFP2... Lost all faith.

It has always amazed me that realistic games are successful at least in the PC market aren't half the people playing to escape from real life?

Americas Army 3. Hands down the most realistic fps. They adjusted the guns to real specs, you only get one life at the beginning of the round, and your gun will jam.
isnt that the army training sim tho?

Steel Battalion is supposed to be realistic to the point of ridiculousness. It's a game where you pilot a giant mecha suit. Sounds like something that doesn't exactly lend itself to realism, right? Wrong! Sit down!

First and foremost, there's the controller.

Yeah. Feeling immersed yet? Good!

All those fancy knobs and levers? They've all got a purpose. Playing Steel Battalion isn't as simple as turning the game on and going; you've got to memorize and execute a complicated boot sequence, the kind you'd probably have to memorize when starting a plane. Then, only after you've powered up your mech, do you get to move around and 'splode stuff.

But the realism doesn't stop there. If you find yourself in a tight spot, you'll be given multiple prompts to eject. After all, if your mecha's about to explode, it only makes sense that you'd want to get out in time, right? Well, here's the kicker. If you try to pull a George Kirk (Captain Kirk's father. Sacrificed himself to... Ah, forget it) and pilot your giant mecha through to the explosive end, your character is killed... And your save file is erased, effectively mimicking what real-life death would mean for you.

How's that for realism?
Sounds like it should be named Rage Quit: The Boiling Point.

Final Fantasy...

What? You've never gotten a ragtag group of friends together and traveled worlds, dimensions, and time itself to save all of reality with magic and your BFG?

Wow, guess some people never really live.

Rainbow Six: Vegas was pretty realistic, kind of. So is Farcry 2.... kind of.
yeah i was thinking that, apart from the regen health in R6:V but the older raibow 6s were so much more realistic. so were the Ghost Recons. Farcry is only realistic gun wise really though and some of thats been exagerated and suffered from re modeling.
Edit: actaully im going for toca race driver 3. you hit a railing and feel your face die

The Total War games. Not the campaigns so much, but the battles are ridiculously realistic (but still very fun). Soldiers get tired and slow down over time! I mean, come on!
yeah i have empire total war and i must say it's realistic except for the AI sometimes makes stupid errors like charging infantry all the way up a hill directly at cannons other than that a good game.

when heavy rain comes out it will probably be ridiculously realistic
Realistic looking but it will probably fall down a simmilar hole that it's predacessor Farenheit did, that being that it's trying to be a blend of a movie and a game (neither of which are known for their dedication to reality), it may not do it as badly as Farenheit did (zombie savior and the glowstick-man death cult?) but it will certainly be far from what we define as 'realistic'.

As for the most realistic game I've ever seen, I'll have to go with Manhunt (especially when played alone, at night, during a storm and in a chav abundant reigon of England, go ahead, try playing it in those conditions and not feeling a tad bit paranoid afterwards).

ArmA II, Project Reality (a mod for BF2), Red Orchestra and Darkest Hour (which is a mod for Red Orchestra). I have no idea why COD4 is on this list. I've played on the hardcore servers and it's not realistic at all. Airstrikes... when you're on a ship in the middle of the ocean?!

Final Fantasy X. Seriously, bear with me...

... [small] Fine, I lied.[/small]

There was a WW2 game a little while back with pretty much no HUD and about two shots killed you. It was very realistic, but utter crap. I can't recall the name...
The early ghost recon games maybe? No... it cant. It was too good. :p And when I think of it, Im pretty sure it isnt a WW game...
