Farcry 2, all you do in the game is shoot some dudes.
No really that's all you ever do.

You're just driving around you shoot some dudes.
You're on a mission you shoot some dudes.
You're driving to a mission you shoot some dudes.
You're looking for some diamonds you shoot some dudes.

And if you try driving past the dudes without shooting them,
they shoot at you then your car catches fire, then you get annoyed and shoot the dudes that shot at you, then you have to walk to wherever you were going because your car exploded.

Excluding level grinding on certain games, Devil May Cry 4.
Nero goes up the stairs, Dante comes down. Which is a shame, because it's an awesome franchise.
The thing is with that, all of the Devil May Cry games, and likewise, its predecessor, Resident Evil, are well known for their backtracking, it's not technically a bad thing. The gameplay is fun as hell in both, and the backtracking just leads to more fun as hell gameplay.

Yeah I hear you. Resident Evil is another one of my favourite games. I was just disappointed with the way in DMC4 you do half the game with Nero then the EXACT same levels, just in reverse, complete with the same bosses, with Dante.

I suppose so. I still didnt find it nearly as bad as the tower of backtrack that was Temin-ni-gru from DMC3 though.

Every Final Fantasy game. They all start good, then go straight to the shitter.
In my opinion, since FFVII, Final Fantasy has become the most overrated franchise in the history of gaming.
Nope 2nd, to, mario
Ahhhh yes. Silly me. I forget that in my head I've blocked out the existence of every Mario game made after SNES.

Remnants of Skystone, a Flash platformer with MMO qualities(a co-op mode and a central hub city where you buy things and get missions). There are thirty story missions, and those alone send you scrambling around the same areas again and again, not even going into the side quests. It's cool though, there are steampunk cowboys with grappling hooks.

Just about all RPGs except Deus Ex.

MMORPGs are of course, the worst because they have no closure; there is no reward for the grinding and repetition except the ability to do it all again. The action is both cause and the effect; circular logic.

This is why a strong and involving storyline is necessary; without it, there is no purpose to what you're doing.

It's been said before, but Dynasty Warriors. Also, Drakengard, which is essentially the same thing but with fewer playable characters and therefore less variation in fighting styles. And yet, I love both of those games to death. :D

Assassin's Creed was repetitive, but still a fantastic game.
I agree with all but the last part :p The repartition made it a bad game. AC2 wa superior in every way and I call it a fantastic game.

To each his own of course.

Red Faction Guerilla, anyone?
blowing shit up never gets old!

But Gears of War seemed pretty damn repetitive to me.
Run to next section, cover, shoot for 5 minutes, move out to next block placed on ground. Wash, rinse, repeat.
