The fact that this actually gave me a chuckle indicates that I don't have the right to judge what's retarded and what's not and that I have no business posting in this thread.

Objectively retarded is not a very good word to describe anything in a positive or negative manner, let alone in a condescending one. It's simply social convention that it's accepted as an insult, seeing as officially the word in all most definitions largely refers to it's French root "tard" which means 'speed' (as a function of time).
Retard means slow or inhibiting.
Therefore, a retarded meme doesn't really have any distinguishing features from "normal" memes.

I came in here for some good old fashioned self deprecation and what I got was a condescending and redundant semantics lesson.
