I'm partial to the turkeys in Streets of Rage.

"Oh man, I'm injured! Better jump kick this trash can! /kick "What's this? A turkey? OMNOMONOMONOMON"

I just don't know about that.

I gotta go with the painkillers from Max Payne. Seriously, his liver must look like shit
Forget his liver, he's got a friggin' magnum bullet lodged in his head. I don't think Painkillers will save him there.

The needle in Bad Company one. Got shot? Shoot yourself up.
Reminds me of IGI and IGI 2. I guess the shot speeds up clotting so that you won't bleed to death, but I think using it repeatedly will cause your blood vessels to explode from too much clotting factors being produced.

The defibrillator paddles in Bad Company 2. I know it was probably the only option for the game designers to resurrect someone, but I doubt a few thousand volts of electricity can do much for a soldier who has just had their head removed by a .50 BMG round going a couple of times the speed of sound.

For example purposes:

Althoug hit makes sense at first... Rations in MGS! A bit of food designed to last long, not taste nice which san heals bulet wounds and stop bleeding and such. I know I'm being picky but its just that its not even a big portion of food man! :/

The defibs in Left 4 Dead 2. So one could be lying there after having there after having there guts ripped out by a hunter, smash to pieces by a Tank and been burnt by a molitov and with one jolt of electricity they're back on their feet.

I'd love it if the game actually had mutilation and burn effects on the survivors. A survivor running around with all they flesh burnt off would be disturbingly funny.

It's funny, even though System Shock is very realistic in this respect, the idea of eating Chips or drinking soda REGAINING health seems ridiculous to me.

RED WIZARD NEEDS FOOD! [sub]And a tourniquet...[/sub]

The Heroin (admit it, that's what you thought it was) in BC 1, and the healing red jelly in MW2.

That said, I like regenerating health.

Your own body, regenerating it's health as you hide behind cover for 5 seconds.
Well it's not an item, but ridiculous nonetheless.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. It remindes me of what Yahtzee said in his Turok review about health meters.

Mass effect may be one of the few that make sense. Medigel, direct manual application or the indirect type expelled from the suits. The Codex is pretty sweet.

It has already been mentioned but:

1. Resident Evil 5 herbs (hairsprays?)
2. Max Payne's enormous amounts of painkillers. I'd like the brand he uses.
