And that giant buff mutant thing from FarCry.
Sounds like me, but I stopped playing when I saw those zombies when you turn into adult Link.

The bear in Condemned scared me only because I never expected a raging bear to be in a game like it. It had my heart racing as it chased me.
What? There are bears? Do they appear on the last level or something because I stopped playing just before that.
What bugged me about that game was during the department store level, there are these manniquens. They weren't really enemies, more like obstacles. You seem them standing all in a ro w, which is unnerving at first but esaily dismissable (as you see them throughout the game and especially on this level). When you start to move on, OUT OF FUCKING NO WHERE a flash of light and they're blocking where you come from. I saw this in the corner of my eye, panicked and fired at them. Considering how it's Condemned and guns are kind of a limited resource and reloading is impossible that was dissapointing.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I was a kid Metroid Prime scared the shit out of me. It was probably because of the shitty lighting of my TV, but whenever I had to go into a Space Pirate lair it was always dark and I could hear the shrieking in the background. It took me forever to grow the balls to find the thermal visor.

Usually it's the atmosphere rather than the monsters themselves. There probably were dozens of instances that a monster scared me but the only part that I remember is in Fallout 3 where a Yao Guai came out of nowhere and ripped me to shreds. It was especially bad since it was the first one I ever seen. I saw a Death Claw the first sitting I played but it was one of those spawned injured ones with both legs crippled so it was kind of let down.

Also: anything that comes back to life after killing it is just cheating.

Dead Space. I'm very flinchy and when ever there would be a spot where they jump up or at you...ugh...although they actually aren't scary. Zombies/ghouls/undead things always spook the hell out me. Slient hill was always a spook too...that flooded basement with the lurkers. spent 15 minutes with friends deciding to see if there was anything in the water

First time I encountered The Flood. Deathclaws only scared me because of their jumping attack/charging speed mixed with their strength.

The first time I fought a nurse in Silent Hill 2. I jack-assedly struted in the hospital looking for some health shakes. Them my radio started picking up white noise. I thought it was just a body-bagged-chest-acid-shooter-dude. Wrong it was two flaily headed nurses.

In Bioshock, that crazed doctor that stands RIGHT BEHIND YOU when you go to pick up the tonic in that steam-filled room. Nearly shit myself when that happened.
i would agree with that..and also i would have to say Dagon and Hydra from Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth...also the little scorpion things that whisper to you..

the aliens from the doom spinoff, when i was a kid at least.
occasionally, oddly enough, the loucusts from GROW, im wandering around i turn the corner, and im face to face with ugly with a shotgun
alma from fear spooked me more than once.

the only enemies i still find scary, are the big daddies from bioshock, no matter what anyone told me, their foot steps were hard for me to guess if their behind me or not

oh god, yes. the first time i saw one, i unloaded a full clip of TMP ammo into the bastard, and... nothing. he only died when the door slammed on him, kinda an exploit, but it's what i take when i'm not equipped properly.

another thing, when i was watching my friend play ocarina of time, he went into this crypt, and there were these weird zombie things that latched on to you if they saw you, holding you in place and sucking your life away... those things were creepy.
I am going to have to say this as well... Those things are just terrifying and you always know one's around with that heavy breathing.

Aha! Time to pull out my extremely obscure reference!

Those of you who brushed up on your bungie history might have heard of a little-known game called the Marathon series. Those of you who are lame like me know that there is an unofficial 'fourth' game to the trilogy called Marathon: Evil.

And those of you to actually play this hidden gem of a game probably knows the Devlin.

One second you're walking down a dark and cramped hallway. The next, you're being assaulted by a mass of black with teeth and six foot long claws. I swear, I couldn't work up the courage to play through the second level for years after that first encounter.

But if I had to reference something people actually -know-, take your pick from any enemy in the first Condemned game. That's the only AI I know of that will skulk about and wait until you've let your guard down to come out and belt you in the back of the head. Banshees from HL2 are a close second, but after you remember to stay calm and fire your shotgun true they become more of a reflex game than terrifying monster.

I was TERRIFIED of the morblins in the lost woods for many years of my life...for those who dont know theyre massive muscular bipedal dogs who rush you with spears and a Bloodcurdling ROAR!

And there is a modified version that swings a huge ass mace around like a toothpick! and that thing HURTS!

Does anyone remember that giant armless monster from LOZ: OoT? It protects the mask of truth and horrified me the first time I saw it.

Same here. I didn't know that animals in Fallout 3 could be deadly at that point, I ran up and hit it with a ripper, it hit me once and I was dead. So bad =(

Also regenerators from Resident Evil 4, first time I was ever afraid to turn the corner.
