Need For Speed : No Limit, takes driving games to the next level, by charging you for fuel
Yes, you read that right. EA finally went All out in the war for your wallet.
In the mobile racing game NFS: No Limit, you need fuel to race. Fuel refills if you don't play for a while, you can earn ingame currency from racing or you can go full retard and buy it.

Link to that article here : http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology-science/technology/need-speed-game-charges-real-5051482

So this made me think, what is your most shameful purchase of ingame currency or items?

Mine would have been buying seven keys in CS:GO to open the crates that had been clogging up my inventory ingame. Nothing new came out of it, and i felt like i just threw money into a well...

...That's standard free to play practice... Don't see the big issue here. Oh, wait. EA did it. I see the "problem" now.

I've bought horse armor for Oblivion... twice. Once full-price and the next with a complete GOTY edition. I've also bought quite a few of those Mass Effect 3 multiplayer packs, though usually with left-over money.

I remember hearing about when The WarZ was released you could buy weapons and armour for crazy money, like £30-£40. Problem is, if you died in game, you died for good and lost ALL of that gear you just purchased. Permanently. And with how broken and buggy and hacked the game was some people were (stupidly) buying expensive gear and then dying within seconds of entering the game.

Any micro-transaction based game that has bundles that cost more than £50. You just shouldn't be allowed to spend that much on a mobile game.

On a similar note to yours, full priced AAA publisher games that have micro-transactions included. Things like Dead Space 3's crafting system and how pretty much every AC game for the past few years has had content skips and micro-transactions as standard. It really has put me off the big game franchises lately. Most of my gaming these days is either indie titles or older games and mods.

As for my most shameful. I too bought the Horse Armour DLC. I really liked Skyrim at the time, and for the amount of time I used my horse I thought it was pretty worth it. I also got a lot of the CoD map packs when I played it waaaaay back. I feel really, really stupid now.

Borderlands: TPS and its season pass is currently feeling like a big rip off. 2 characters and a shitty arena mode so far, for £25?[footnote]Well, if you got it off Steam, I got it off another site for £7. :p[/footnote] Yeah, admittedly they haven't released all the DLC that's gonna be under it but so far, the DLC they have released has been incredibly under-whelming, at least compared to Borderlands 2

I also bought a fair few ME3 crates as well, but that was mostly to burn off spare LIVE points I got from the XBox LIVE Rewards program. Mostly. I did spend real money to unlock some of the more enjoyable characters. <_<

I'm thinking, and only two things come to mind. One, I bought a few of the Mass Effect 3 purchase packs, but that was usually because I had a dollar left over here, fifty cents left over there. Still, I was feeding the problem I suppose.

The other one would be a skin. I bought the Female soldier skin for Resistance 2. I bought it for the soul purpose of wanting to play as a girl. I even had some random stranger call me a pervert for playing as one because I'm a guy. But the fact remains that I paid a few bucks just to change my appearance for everyone ELSE, since I don't actually see my character for most of the game.

MW2 map packs that I never used. Just Cause 2 weapons/vehicles that I never actually used. Ugly Arkham Batsuits.

Halo Reach multiplayer maps that I never actually played. They never seemed to come up and I got bored of trying to play them and not being able to. Halo Reach was poorly balanced to begin with, so I never should have spent that money.

Hate to break it to you but that is standard for mobile free to play. You get a limited amount of energy/fuel/whatever per day to allow you to progress and if you want to play more you have to buy it. If you only play for few minutes on a train it doesn't matter. If you actually get into the game or get addicted to it and don't watch your spending you can easily piss away a lot of money.

I did buy some overpriced armour in GW1, purely a cosmetic thing but I had poured a lot of hours into that game for what I paid so it was partially a thank you to the developers.

I bought a $24USD mount in FFXIV because it looked cool.

Knowing full well that the only advantage it holds or will ever hold over other mounts is simply that it looks cool. There is no practical or logical reason to spend that much money on something so trivial. But I did it.

$50 worth of gems in guild wars 2, I had a lot of fun with it but still, that would have been enough for another full game.

I bought Spell Tomes in Oblivion, which made books that teach you spells pop up in loot. I though for $2 I could get new effects for my own custom spells easily. Nope, they barely popped up, and the spells were either redundant and worse than beginning game magic or had ridiculous effects that you had to be a master, or close to master, of the appropriate school in order to make proper use of. The DLC was so worthless it really should have just been in a patch (or a patch should have made the looted tomes level with you). I still don't know what's worse, horse armor or books that make useless spells fill up your menu.

I also feel shame that I gave in to Bungie's and MS's tactic of hiding the good game types behind the new map paywalls in Halo 2/3. I loved Team Swat, but hated paying $10 every few months to unlock what I've already been playing for years and get 2-3 maps that rarely pop up in the rotation. The rest of the maps also were rare for a long time in other gametypes. It made me feel like I was getting hosed. (We all probably were, considering the $60 a year for Live.)

Now I tend to avoid all DLC, save for a very select few.

My absolute worst?

I spent a bunch of money on stupid card packs in those damn mobile card game things. You know...where you just build a deck and level them up and let them run at each other? Played a couple of games like that and wasted money on it. >_>

Nowadays I prefer to waste my money on DOTA2 boxes and stuff like that. At least I'll USE them.

Mass Effect 3 expected you to pay for a Prothean who was so heavily in the game that they clearly meant to involved him and thought to simply charge you for it instead.

That wasn't very nice.

Not a "purchase" per se, but I think the most shameful F2P experience of my life was when I opened credit card that offered $50 worth of in-game cash for Avengers Alliance.

I'll never admit this to anyone I know.

Nothing will ever be as bad as Asura's Wrath. Because the DLC it had wasn't some extra thing or a new costume, no, it was the goddamn ending of the story. Shamefully I bought it because at that point I was so invested in the story I truly wanted to see how it ended. That was how I started hating capcom.

Sakura's hello kitty outfit for Ninja Storm 3.

Uh. Yeah, I was expecting a FAR sillier outfit, and funny enough it's like the most expensive single outfit and it's like so fucking weak.
